Hi Asana team! I’m really loving Asana so far, and finding my productivity has increased SO much from just a few months ago. I’m trying to make the most of My Tasks by creating automatons and rules. I have My Tasks set up by sections based on projects, (and sub-organized by date due) so that i can quickly scan all the projects i’m working on and see tasks due today.
In the list view of My Tasks, I’m finding that incoming (newly assigned to me) tasks are stacking up quickly, and get overwhelming. It would be great if you could customize the rules so that I can auto-add incoming tasks from specific projects to a specific section in My Tasks. I can understand why you would want to have people manually move incoming tasks, so users don’t miss when a task is assigned to them. But especially if I am the user who created the task and assigned myself, I’m obviously already aware of it and its just a lot of extra work to move tasks around every day. Could you create the ability to tweak a rule to be something like:
New Rule:
trigger: “task added to my tasks”
ADD: "IF task was created by [myself] and project is [project name] then
action: “move task to [section]”.
Does that make sense? Would be great to have more specificity to the “if this than that” functionality of rules, in general. This would be super helpful for me.
Hi @Luke_Barlow, welcome to the Asana Community Forum
While this feature isn’t available at this time, hopefully it’s something our Product team can implement in the future
We do have an existing thread for this feature request in the #productfeedback category so I’ve gone ahead and merged your post with the existing one to consolidate feedback.
I’ll keep you posted and let you know if I have any updates
I would really like this feature as well. It seems like extra work to have to constantly be moving tasks from “recently assigned” to the sections you have in “My Tasks”
I was really looking for this feature as well and I think a found a round about way to accomplish this behavior.
I created a custom field for my desired project. Then I added a rule to that project so that all new tasks in that project set that custom field to specific value (name and value don’t really matter as long as they match the next step). Then in My Tasks I created a section rule to new tasks that is triggered when “tasks is moved to my tasks” and the custom field is set to value from my project rule, move to the specific section.
Now when a new task is created in my project and assigned to me, it is automatically moved from new tasks to my desired section in My Tasks. Hope this helps
Unfortunately, this doesn’t work for reoccurring tasks, which was the main reason I wanted to implement this so for now using the setting to automatically move reoccurring tasks to last section in my tasks instead of default section
Ah! This seemed like a good workaround, but, unfortunately, it only works for Status and Task Priority custom fields. Those don’t seem to be specific for the desired project.
I want to create a central project and identify task coming from project x and add corresponding tag. This would really help organizing and summarizing all that is going on a single project for reproposing and seeing the full picture.
