**This is confirmed by Asana to be a bug.**
Posting in the forum, as I don’t see anyone else’s post with the exact same issue and others may be experiencing this.
Case submitted to Asana on Friday morning, 8/14/2026:
I suspect this is tied to the rollout of “Automation rules will soon use the rule owner’s current permissions” but it may be a bug. I have built numerous workflows for others, including some background automations that support those flows. I’m seeing in my Asana inbox many notifications of actions happening on tasks that I normally don’t see. It appears I’m being added as a collaborator where rules I created execute on a task. I wouldn’t expect this behavior and hope it’s a bug that can be fixed. My first unexpected notification came at 5:01 p.m. ET on Thursday, 8/13/2026. Fridays and weekends are slower for us, but this will drown my Asana inbox come Monday.
After providing a lot of details requested, I received this last response from Asana on Tuesday, 8/18/2026 at 10:25 a.m. ET:
Thanks for providing this information.
I’m writing back to confirm that this is a known issue and this has been escalated to our Development team. They are currently investigating the bug in question and hope to have it resolved as soon as possible.
I went ahead and added your report to this escalation and assure you that I’ll be in touch as soon as I hear back from the Development team.
I will be in contact as soon as we have an update to share. If you have any questions, or if there is anything else I can help you with in the meantime, please let me know.
As of Tuesday, 8/25/2026, it’s still not resolved.
I suspected it was tied to the roll-out of “Automation permission update” Asana Help Center . Another bug came up 8/20/2026 that the user suspected was tied to the same update: All Rules Stuck In Processing . That one seems more critical and was resolved within a day.
I’ve reconfirmed for myself that I don’t have a way to just turn off these notifications until this case is resolved ( Turning off Inbox Notifications for applied rules - #60 by ka_nishiyama ).
