This keeps happening. I have created templates for all businesses I work with. Every new project uses the templates. However they never appear how they should. Tags are always missing, the columns are put in the wrong order and columns are added that are not in the template. All the tasks appear that are in the templates just configuration is always wrong.
Hi Jo,
That sounds super frustrating! I’ve had this trouble before and it came down to clicking “save view” in the top right. When you adjust tags, column order, and sorts you always have to click “save view” for it to hold. As someone who primarily uses Google Workspace, I never remember to save bc it’s done automatically in Google.
To save your time and frustration, I suggest starting with one column. Get it where you want it and the save and exit out. Come back and see if it held.
If it did, hooray that’s the fix!
I’ll toy around with my templates and see if I can find another reason why configuration would be off. But hopefully this is the fix. Good luck!
The template includes the bespoke columns that are dropdown menus and Asana columns like Tags, Due Date and Priority. The templates just don’t work. Nothing to do with Save View unfortunately
Darn. I’ll think on this and get back to you if I have any other ideas.
I’ll try help as best I can, but I think it might be best to contact support.
See: How to contact our Support Team 📧
Why are you not using custom fields? Library fields are often best in templates, as you’ll be able to update all selections for all projects by managing the custom field, instead of having every custom field be a copy.
(I’m not saying tags shouldn’t work, they should, just suggesting a workaround)
That shouldn’t happen. Can you share a screenshot of what this looks like of both template and project created from template?
Best if I show you but I am using my own custom fields, tags are important to us.
Above is the template I made, template below is what acutally appears when I create a project:
As you can see, columns not in order and Tags column missing
This would be good to communicate to support.
As a workaround, I would suggest using a custom field.
The whole point of the templates is so we don’t have to keep adding custom fields. So they are ready to go. Will get on to support. Thanks
And now Asana support does not work.
This is unfortunately expected behaviour.
Tags are not shown by default when you create a project or when they are created from a template.
You need to go into Options>Show/Hide columns and enable the Tags column. You then need to Save the view so it persists (for all users).
Also Assignee and Due date columns will always be first and then all your other fields.
The good news is that this is currently in development and should solve these issues, too:
Thanks for your help. This has happened before and it was a bug.
