Hi @Alex_Fotsch and @m.kremer (welcome to the forum
)
Have you tried the new Gantt view which was recently released?
You can enable it by adding it as a new tab to your project.
The tasks and subtasks will be listed in the same order as List view, unless you sort by Start Date.

Hello, Could someone from Asana explain how the tasks are being sorted in timeline view when they are within the sections? If you can let us know how they are being sorted, then I can try to input them in a way that doesnāt make the positioning so random.

Hi @Richard_Sather - I used to have this issue in my past company with the Timeline and List view sorting differently. I was very happy to see now that Iām using Asana again, that there is a Gantt view.
Unfortunately I now have the reverse problem. I created a list view project, with many sections and tasks within each section, and the tasks were more or less ordered by order of operation . Although I didnāt have dates, each task would have followed the next day after day. I did not have any dependencies set up.
Then when I added the Gantt view to the project, and using Gantt added dates to each task through the Gantt view.
Now I find that when I go back to list view the tasks are out of order in each section. They are not in the order I had placed them in, and they arenāt in date order top to bottom either. It seems totally random. Tasks are still in the same section they should be in. But its the order in the section that is all messed up. There seems to be no rhyme or reason with regards to their order in list view after using Gantt view. I can manually drag and drop, or perhaps use sort in list view. But that just seems to be a bug that I have to do that, when they were in virtual date order to start with.
I was searching to see if someone else had this same issue, but so far I hadnāt found a forum thread on it. Iām wondering if anyone else noticed this?

Hi @Jessica_Mergen , welcome to the forum
I followed your steps but I canāt seem to replicate the bug you describe. The sort in Gantt view was initially set by default to sort by āStart dateā but I see in my instance that it is now set to āNoneā, which should reflect the order of tasks in your List view, even if you start applying dates to tasks. (before, they used to jump up/down, sorted by start date).
Either way, you should not have an issue if you sort both views by start date, right?
This problem still exists. I believe that Asana is suggesting to use the Gantt view as an alternative. The problem is that the timeline view is much better for Executive Review than the Gantt⦠(too much info on Gantt)
Fixing the Timeline ordering issue would be a better solution. Unless this is an āas designed featureā, then lets say that and put this to bed.
