I received the notice regarding the discontinuance of Personal Projects. I do have an account to transfer my data too. However, my understanding is that with the .csv download and import approach, I will lose images and comments.
Can someone recommend another approach or connected app that will fully transition my Personal Projects data to another Project?
What a joke. Biggest pain to do. Will loose all comments and attachments. I have 10 years worth of HR staff internal notes saved here. Will look for different platform now
Funny you guys nuked all my projects last year not allowing a password reset. Support said I never had an account. round and round we went with no joy and years of work lost….
I say funny because low and behold I received an email today saying you were getting rid of personal projects and to download progress before it is lost - AND SENT TO THE EMAIL YOU SAID NEVER HAD AN ACCOUNT.
I got the notification that Asana Personal Projects are going away. I appreciate the long notice and time to adapt.
Is there not a simply way of me just moving these projects from “Personal” to the Business side? Or is there a way of homing the tasks that I have in there into newly-created Projects on the Business side?
I know I can export CSV but I do not think CSV is going to export my pictures.
Please understand I have pictures in there of stuff like medical equipment that I use when going to the doctor. I have pictures of the model # tags of all my appliances at home (for repair work). \
I really cannot afford to lose all those pictures or have time to download them all, and then re-upload them into newly created tasks.
I am cool with just creating a single-person Project on the business side to do this but cannot figure out how to do this and retain all my photographs. Suggestions?
Hi everyone, sorry for any frustration regarding the deprecation of Personal Projects.
Unfortunately, the import/export process with CSV does no include attachments and comments, however, this might be possible with third-party apps like Ditto.
Please note that we cannot provide support for the Ditto integration, as we did not develop it, but we frequently see it used by our customers and recommended by our Community members in posts like this. You can find the Ditto integration here: https://ditto.kothar.net/
Hi @ACE, thanks for sharing what happened, and I’m sorry to hear you’ve run into trouble recovering your account. I wasn’t able to locate a Support ticket connected to the email address you’re using here in the Forum. The best next step would be to reach out to our Support team and follow up on your previous conversation, as they’ll be able to review your case in more detail and assist you directly.
Hi @Matt5, thanks for your question. Unfortunately, there isn’t a straightforward way to move data from one space to another, especially with Personal Projects, which is a legacy feature built on a different structure.
I’m going to merge your topic into an existing thread about the Personal Projects deprecation, so others can more easily find related conversations in one place.
In that thread, we mentioned Ditto, a third-party tool that many Community members and Forum Leaders have recommended for migrating data between Asana spaces. Just a quick note: Asana isn’t affiliated with Ditto, so we can’t provide support for it.
Does anyone have any suggestions on how to save our tasks while also KEEPING all the documents and photos uploaded to it? We have been Asana customers for nearly a DECADE at this point and I feel like I am being punished for using it the way it’s intended to be used. I have a LOT of information saved that is going to be a titanic mess to try to retrieve.
Doing this without giving us a way of migrating things straight over into a basic account feels like a betrayal of the trust we’ve put in Asana for these years.
On top of all the other concerns on this thread (photo uploads and comments), I am concerned about losing completion status and completion dates. AFAIK, there is no way to change completion dates.
@Vanessa_N can this discontinuation of “Personal Projects” be postponed until Asana provides a proper solution? This migration, where we can’t even migrate, doesn’t make sense.
I have a fairly simple question about the Personal Projects discontinuation but the chat was not helpful. The question is:
In my account dropdown menu, the Personal Projects is one among several items listed at that level. Inside those other items, I have thousands of hours (almost a decade) of data, files, images, documents, comments, and team discussion. Can you promise that those items will not accidentally vanish too in December? We’re worried.
Thanks for any help you can provide in answering what, if anything, outside of Personal Projects will be going away, and what will be remaining exactly as is.
Thanks, Larry; I also just used DITTO as linked to transfer the files to a new workspace and it was easy and fast. All my files came through fine. Thanks again!
It’s a pity Asana doesn’t offer a better transition like converting Personal Projects into a Workspace. In the meantime, I can share a tool I built for archiving Asana projects: photocopi.es + Asana • Asana
This does not move data between workspaces like Ditto, but exports tasks as PDF. It exports comments and other activity, and any file attachments like images.
I got the notification about Personal Workspaces being discontinued, and I wanted to create a new workspace that I could use instead.
I had used my personal email address (i.e. x@gmail.com) to create my personal workspace. While logged in under that same emai address, I tried to follow the directions in Asana Help Center for “If you want to create a workspace (ideal for personal use):”.
After clicking the profile, however, there isn’t an option to “Create New Workspace”. I see options for Profile, Settings, Add Another Account and Log Out, but nothing to Create a New Workspace.
