I followed the migration steps, and that was easy enough. However, all my completed tasks lost their completed flags, and now I have five years of completed tasks showing as uncompleted. This seems like it would have been an important bit to include in the export. Is there any chance of getting a fix?
Oh yeah, and also, all my imported recordsâs creation dates are date of import, so Iâve also lost a ton of archival information re: when tasks were created/completed.
Did you use the CSV approach or Ditto?
CSV. I donât recall the instructions given by Asana including any reference to Ditto, which is not something I was familiar with.
Ditto isnât officially recommended by Asana in their Help but a lot of us here use and recommend it, and it was mentioned by the forum moderators as well: Personal Projects Migration - #8 by Vanessa_N.
I have received the notice, and am in the process of migrating from my Personal Space to a Workspace. I found out about dates needing to be in the format mm/dd/yyyy, which I can handle in a csv file.
All the csv rows are importing into a blank project in Asana.
What I donât seem to be able to do is have the importer respect the Completed Date (none of the tasks are marked complete), and have the importer import Subtasks into their Parent Tasks - both subtasks and tasks appear as tasks.
Any hint/clue/help? What am I not doing, or what should I be doing?
Hi @Henri_Guillaume and welcome to the forum!
FYI I merged your post with an existing thread on this topic.
My personal (no pun intended) recommendation is to try Ditto, discussed here in this thread, instead of the CSV approach.
where to we migrate to if we are unable to âcreate new workspaceâ?
Please implement an internal migration. All building blocks of personal projects are also available in any other workspace: Tasks, tags, descriptions, comments, uploads etc. It should be an easy job for an organisation the size of Asana to make this happen. Especially in the age of AI assisted coding.
You are bang on. Asanaâs disregard for their users is already making me consider a switch for my business spaces.
So the CSV export just takes all tasks ever, it doesnât filter out completed tasks which can only be done with advanced search which requires a paid plan (which I canât even trial, I have to contact sales). This is such a headache, yâall need to please make this transfer over process easier.
Not sure if this is the right place for this, but I have got to get some feedback to Asana re: forced conversion from âpersonal projectsâ to âworkspaceâ.
First of all, the entire premise makes no sense to those of us who are not web developers or coders. It seems like we are just copy pasting our projects/tasks/sub tasks from one âbrowser tabâ to another.
I have 24 projects to convert. I have had most of these projects for 7 years. They all have multiple recurring monthly tasks. At first, it seemed the conversion went smoothly and did exactly what it was supposed to. I started opening the projects to check the task lists against the originals and that is when the horror struck. 1)Every task in the history of that project was copied over to the new âworkspaceâ 2)Every task was marked âincompleteâ 3)None of the tasks came over with their recurring statuses 4)If a project was started by copying another project and then modifying the new project details, the entire task history from the original project was also copied over to the new âworkspaceâ. So some of these projects are going to require 420 clicks just to remove old tasks. If the project was started by copying another one, then it will have more than 420 clicks to clear old tasks.
There does not appear to be a way to bulk delete/mark complete tasks. I did get a little pop up that said I can âctrl + clickâ to edit multiple tasks at once, but if the goal is simply to remove old items from 2018-2024 and most of the way through 2025, âctrl + clickâ is not going to make it more efficient.
This feels like something that could have an should have been discovered/addressed when you ran a test conversion before springing it on users.
Hi @Melinda_Mcke,
FYI Iâve merged your post with an existing thread on this topic.
My recommendation is to try Ditto, the tool mentioned in this thread.
Hello
I am attempting to go from the personal proejcts space to workspace. I ahve 18 projects to convert. I strated with the first one. 1) all the tasks that I have completed with due dates are now showing as imcomplete and past due. 2) all sub tasks for a task are now showing as not in a section and certainly not under their parent. It looks like a mess.
How can I fix this? can I delete it all and start over? Please help
Hi @Lisa_B,
FYI I merged your post with an existing topic on this same subject.
I recommend you take a look at Ditto, mentioned above in this thread.
Hi @Richard_Sather @Phil_Seeman
I donât see an answer to the question that @Emma_Davis5 ,@Elizabeth_A_Heller and I are individually asking about:
I received the notice about Asana discontinuing Personal Projects. Under my Account>Settings, there is no prompt to Create a Workspace. Iâve seen others ask the same question on the forum, but havent seen a solution.
No he hasnât! Profile picture > Settings > Account tab, Organisations and Workspaces. There simply is no option there âCreate a new Workspaceâ - Unlike the screen shot in https://help.asana.com/s/article/managing-workspaces?language=en_US. I donât see it anywhere else either. How do we create a new Workspace? Thanks. [I would like to use Ditto, but it requires a new Workspace as prerequisite]
Strangely, in the attached screen shot, I am only seeing the separate corporate organisation where my personal email address is a guest. No âPersonal Spaceâ even though I have just navigated from there. Is that a clue?
Do you see âCreate a new workspaceâ in the mini menu when you just click on your profile avatar in the top right corner, anywhere in Asana?
