Option To Archive Teams

I have not tried that - We don’t have a Business Tier account which is required for portfolios. I hope it works for you!

The solution to our problem is happily solved with the method I have described before. We do not need to archive teams very frequently, so it may be suitable for us and not others.

Ah I see, makes sense. Thanks for the thoughtful reply!

Archiving Teams would be such a help! Just making another opinion known. Like others, we create a team for each client, then list all of the projects within each client-team. When we’re offboarding the client, we archive their projects, but we’re left with a long list of teams at the bottom of the side bar (I move them all to the bottom). Why can’t teams be archived as well. It doesn’t seem like a heavy-lift but has a lot of reward to users!

How is request still not fulfilled? Clearly a lot of organizations would find it extremely useful!

Hi,

Here’s what I’ve done to “archive” or hide the team from the left sidebar in the Asana app:

  1. Remove all members from the team you want to archive.
  2. Log into the Admin Console and go to “Members” in the side menu. Only the Super Admin should be listed.
  3. Click the three dots at the end of that row and select “Edit profile settings”.
  4. Select the “Team Access” tab.
  5. Click “On team” to remove the Super Admin from the team.

The team will no longer show in the side panel in the Asana app. You can click “Add to team” to show the team again.
When I tested it I had all my conversations and attachments still available, but proceed at your own risk.

I hope this helps until a better way is implemented.

My organization would like this feature too.

Please do this. Seems like an obvious feature.

We are a Digital Agency in London and this feature would be so useful for us. Archiving an entire team with the projects within it is much much needed.

This is such a good feature that Asana should be looking to implement as a priority one. Its such a weird case that we can archive projects, but we can’t archive teams.

Another agency saying YES we need this feature, please. Does not seem particularly complicated either. What’s the hold-up Asana?

Please prioritize this update! My workspace being cluttered with old Teams slows down efficiency

We would also like the ability to archive old teams!

Another vote!

Our agency has been on Asana since it launched, and have tried Monday, Notion, and a handful of others throughout the years. Through it all, Asana still reigns supreme for our team’s needs.

H O W E V E R… the reason we keep trying other platforms is because we couldn’t archive teams. And while I think this feature should be present, we finally bit the bullet and treated “Teams” as, well, Teams. We now have our “Departments” setup at the Team level instead, and for us, it’s made all the difference. If there is an SEO project for a client, it goes in the SEO Team. If it’s a Website build project, it goes in the Web Development Team, and so forth. Mixed service projects have their own Team as well.

While Clients come and go, service groups tend to have a longer shelf life, if you will. And if I had to be honest, it’s also made Team management at the project level more straight forward as well, and has also lessened the amount of Teams we have to run, making that sidebar a LOT cleaner.

Anyway, not an argument against the archive feature for Teams, but just a note to say that after all these years we started using Teams as intended, and it seems almost everyone in our group prefers it. Maybe the Asana team knew what they were doing after all?

Another vote to please allow us to archive teams

At our agency, we use Teams as a combination of internal agency departments and clients. In cases where we have more than one project per client, we create a Team under the client’s name. This allows our agency to easily organize projects by the client name (aka Team).

When we are no longer working with a client, we would like the ability to archive that Team instead of removing ourselves from the team, relocating all projects for that client to another team, and then deleting the team. That requires work and communicating this to all team members.

It would be very helpful if there was an “Archive Team” option under the Team > Advanced Settings and allowed only the “Team Admin” to be able to archive a team. When a team is archived, all active projects within the team should get Archived, and all team members that are part of the team and projects should receive a notification that “Team admin John Doe has archived this team.”

This would be extremely helpful for the exact scenario described in the original post FIVE years ago.

Any update on this? Would be extremely useful!

We’d like to delete certain Team(s) from Asana, but keep the projects (that were associated with that team). I don’t see a way to bulk move these (archived) projects to a different team. I’d be fine with moving them to our “Full team”, but currently it’s not easy to do.

I reached out to Support in the hopes they’d be able to assist in bulk-moving projects from one team to a different team, but no go. :frowning:

There should be a way to bulk select/move projects to a different team and/or have an option/setting in the “Delete team” flow.

In one of these two screens, it would be nice if there was a checkbox and/or dropdown that says:

move projects from this team to a different team, prior to team deletion

[dropdown of team choices]

Was hoping someone like @Bastien_Siebman made a tool for this, but no luck.
