Multiple select for custom fields

Is there any update on when this feature is going to be added? It would be such a great addition.

Another use case: in cross functional teams, it would be great to be able to select on a card under customer field “Teams” to be able to select more than one option e.g. design + front-end dev + qa.

Agree, we would utilize the “check all that apply” checkbox feature in custom fields. Would love to see this feature added!

I really need this. Example, we have multiple social media channels on fb and we need our our volunteers to post on our page, group and second group. We need check boxes for sure. What’s the work around for this anyone?

@Adrienne_McCue I have a content factory project, one column per social media, and a custom field for status with Ready or Published for example.

@Bastien_Siebman Oh, that’s a good idea. So you set it up as board correct, or now it doesn’t matter with all the displays?

List layout, the only one really showing custom fields

Oh thanks.

The only thing about that is our volunteers would have to create multiple tasks for the same content if say we add it to Facebook and Instagram. Which I’m trying to avoid. I know we could add tags, but they don’t work as well as Custom fields.

Not in my case. One task, Facebook is a custom field, Instagram is a custom field.

yes, this seems like such a no brainer feature. Really need to be able to check multiple boxes within one field… Is this on the roadmap yet? Crucial for reporting.

Yes, but I need to add content to both Facebook and Instagram. We need a checkbox. The way doesn’t work unless we create sub-tasks. Then we can just go down the line.

Do you have a sample of this?

We would love a checkbox in custom field as well. When we’re deploying an email or automated series, we have an exclusion/suppression list for all segments that are not receiving that content. Would also love this for the marketing calendar we’ve built out to select what segments are receiving that item.

This one feature that is missing is why I will be sticking with Monday instead of switching over to Asana. This feature is seriously a no brainer and needs to be implemented.

Welcome, @Kristen_Sherrill,

I don’t really find this an impediment in Asana. I just use a dropdown with two options: blank or :heavy_check_mark::

If you don’t like the green background for the check, you can make it any other color or no color so it blends in just like in your example.

+1 on Larry’s answer.

I believe this needs to be said: thankfully a product team does not implement every single “no brainer” feature. It’s all about coherence, simplicity and usability.

Or perhaps what needs to be said is you don’t take your customers feedback into account. This is a feature that has been requested since 2018, and instead of thinking of it as an optional feature you would rather snap back with attitude. Good to know that it is lacking in features and customer service.

I don’t work for Asana :grinning: I just shared my personal opinion as an asana user and a product creator myself.

@Kristen_Sherrill I want to step in and offer my opinion. First off, you aren’t wrong - this is #productfeedback that has been around for awhile and a very populate request. You’ll even see above that @Phil_Seeman shares a link where there was a commitment to pursue this feature, but it was shelved due to the overseen amount of engineering required to introduce the feature. While shelved, I personally REALLY hope it is something the team figures out because I absolutely see tremendous value in a multi-select custom field (like you find in Forms)

All that said, I don’t think @Bastien_Siebman was trying to be disrespectful with his remark. I believe he was simply underlining some core values of Asana and not suggesting features like this aren’t valuable.

I also think his comments, along with @lpb’s comments, were more directed towards the more recent post around what Monday offers. Asana (through the use of emojis) can absolutely offer the same experience you shared in the screenshot without having to have a dedicated field to show a check mark. This happens to be different from what this post is suggesting. This post suggests you can see multiple selections from a list within a custom field (something Monday does indeed off)
