🔐 Microsoft SSO is rolling out to Asana

Hi Asana Community,

I’m excited to announce we’re rolling out Microsoft SSO, so you can sign in to Asana with your Microsoft account. One less password to remember is always a win!

Who can use it?

Microsoft SSO is rolling out across free and paid plans, including for people creating a new Asana account (coming soon).

Where will it appear?

You’ll see the Microsoft sign-in option on Asana login and sign-up pages where email and Google sign-in are already available.

If your team already works in Microsoft, this should make getting started in Asana feel that much smoother.

As always, feel free to share your thoughts or questions below!

This is a great addition. I get the following message when I click sign in with Microsoft button. I am an Asana admin. Is there anything I need to do to enable it in Asana?

We are already using SSO in Asana, so what is the difference between this and the SSO that is being launched?

@Dan_Hardy thanks for reporting this! I recommend you to contact our support team as they have the tools to investigate this further and help you solve it asap. You can create a ticket following the steps on this post: How to contact our Support Team 📧.

@Arjen_Dunnink this new option allows users to login using their Microsoft account, before it was only available via Google SSO or SAML

Hi, Do you still need to re-login once every week?

That is experienced as annoying by our team.

Emily, will do. By the way, the Help Center homepage link in that article is broken.

Hi @Dan_Hardy ! I’m Elaine, the Product Manager that worked on this feature. The screenshot you sent is a permission set up on the Microsoft side. The justification you’re sending goes to your Microsoft admin to approve or deny Asana as an application. Nothing is needed on the Asana side, but you will need to work with your IT team, or whomever manages Microsoft. For more information on Microsoft Entra Admin consent, please see: Configure the admin consent workflow - Microsoft Entra ID | Microsoft Learn

Hello @Saskia_van_de_Schans ! This does not impact your re-login frequency. Your log out frequency is a security setting defined by your organizations Asana administrators. I’d recommend reaching out to them if you need this set up changed.

Hi Elaine-

See attached ticket. I’m a little confused. I’m a Microsoft Admin as well.

Hi @Dan_Hardy ! Those are the settings for iDP single sign on options (AKA SAML). These are separate from the Microsoft SSO functionality we just built. None of the permissions would be set on the Asana side. You’ll need to change the settings in Microsoft Entra.

Thanks. Can you provide a guide on how to set this up?

Hi @Dan_Hardy, I am not as familiar with Microsoft but the link I provided above should give you some direction on where to start/how to do it: Configure the admin consent workflow - Microsoft Entra ID | Microsoft Learn

Thanks. I’ll give it a try

Hi Elaine-

Thanks! That worked. One more question: if we disable passwords in Asana and require people use SSO, can I still get into my personal workspace if I leave my company? I set my personal workspace up before we started using Asana at our company.

Dan

Nevermind. I realized that personal workspaces were deprecated a while ago!

Hi @Dan_Hardy ! You should still be able to access your personal workspace if your company organization is de-provisioned. We did not deprecate personal workspaces, but it’s possible yours was deleted!

One other question: Can we disable password sign-ins so that users can only log in with Microsoft?

Hi @Dan_Hardy ! Not yet, but we’re working on it and it should come out in the upcoming weeks.
