Merge Projects

I’m new to Asana. Is there a way to merge projects within this platform into one project?

Thanks for any insights!

Best,
Cara

Hi Cara
You cannot directly merge 2 projects.
But you can multiselect all the tasks of you first project, and add them to the project 2. If you unselect the project 1 for those tasks, then they’ll belong only to project 2, as if you had merged the two projects.

Hi @cara.o_brien and welcome to Asana!

@Julien_RENAUD just gave you the best workaround. Here are some guide articles you might find helpful:

Hi there. I have been reviewing this as I have just joined. I have a question this.

It says: “But you can multiselect all the tasks of you first project, and add them to the project 2. If you unselect the project 1 for those tasks, then they’ll belong only to project 2, as if you had merged the two projects.”

Can you leave the tasks selected in project 1 as well as project 2 will any changes made to the tasks appear in both projects?

Thanks

Stuart

Yes. This is described in https://asana.com/guide/help/tasks/fields#gl-multi-home mentioned in the previous reply.

Hi there,
I’m fairly new to Asana and am exploring ways to best use it. What I am looking for is a way to select a number of smaller projects, each with its own set of tasks and subtasks, and combine (merge) them into a larger project.
Reason for this is that each project we start does not necessarily require all tasks and follow the same process flow. Normally I would just create a number of templates and copy the one I need each time we start a new project and remove the tasks that are not applicable. Instead I was thinking of making it more modular, i.e. select the (smaller) projects I need and combine them into one large project, perfectly suited for the project we’re working on.

What are your recommendations?

Maybe I can use the import functionality? I.e. keep the ‘modules’ in Google spreadsheets or Excel and import whichever I need?

@Lester_de_Meer,

You could consider:

I believe you’d want to assemble in a reference project a set of task templates for all the types of tasks you have.

To use one, create a task in that project from the template, then re-home (change the project membership) from the reference project to your destination project.

If you have many tasks you can do re-homing in batches of up to 50 at a time.

Hope that helps,

Larry

Just curious: Why couldn’t a simple Merge Projects option exist?
I’d like the ability to merge templates too.
