Introducing Start Times for Tasks!

Hi everyone!

Today, we’re excited to announce that we are rolling out Start Times for tasks for all Premium, Business and Enterprise users! :tada:

With Start Times, you can plan and track work down to the minute within tasks whether you’re working on the web, the desktop app, or mobile :clock1:

To add a Start Time, simply add your Due Date and Due Time and then select your Start Date and Start Time and you are now ready to plan, schedule and track your tasks on a more granular level.

In the near future, you will also be able to zoom down to tasks with start and end times on timeline and calendar, so keep an eye out for this announcement! :eyes:

If you have any questions or feedback, please feel free to share in the comments below

With this will you be able to trigger notifications within Asana by start date? We have tasks that can cover multiple weeks and desire our team members to be notified on when they need to begin. Ideally on their “My Tasks” page. Thanks Y’all!

When will this feature be available? I can’t see this new interface just now (we’re on a business plan)

This is great! Just what I need for one of the orgs. :slightly_smiling_face:

Hi @Lukas_Kerecz, thanks for asking! We plan to have Start Times rolled out to 100% of users within the next week. I’ll keep you updated!

Hi @Kyle_W, we don’t plan on introducing any new Rule triggers at this time but I’ll keep you posted if anything changes!

This is a small but extremely useful update. Setting the stage for the future…

Great. @Phil_Seeman any idea if this is going to be available in the API soon?

Hi Kyle,

FYI you can do this via the If-Then Rules feature of our Flowsana integration.

It already is! Just look for the new start_at property, it’s already there.

It’s not in the API documentation yet but start_at and start_on work exactly analogously to due_at and due_on.

This is great! Been waiting for this feature, thank you! Will there be a way to make the time on Calendar view show the start time versus the due time? Second, will this eventually be able to sync with Outlook calendar? Thanks again!

Can you please also add this for milestones? Or enable tracking of sub-tasks in timeline.

Without one of those you aren’t able to make use of timeline to track milestones

+1 to Matts message:

Please add the Start Time feature to the (Outlook) calender syc so that I as a user can see the Asana tasks precisely placed within my calendar and not only as daily events on top of my calendar!

This way, I can drive the usage of Asana across our organization as the acceptance to create meeting-tasks within Asana will rise. Asana meetings will then be shown right in between of my other calendars meeting when using the ‘overlap’ function of the mailing systrem.

This is going to be HUGE!

I am always late to the party :champagne: thanks!

Can we include and sort by “Start Time” on the My Tasks page? I keep setting “Due Dates” to Start Times so they show in the correct order. It would be great to change that.

Is there a way to see Start Times in My Tasks boardview? (Other than opening the task).

This is really wonderful and has such great potential to grow and benefit teams in terms of forecasting and workload. I want to get my hands on it and see what reporting will be available from this feature too!! :clap:t3::clap:t3::clap:t3:
