Have you tested it yet? If yes, then please let me know.
Update on this?
We havenât heard anything about this topic from Asana, and they donât share their roadmap publicly.
Starting to think we should have chosen another PM system
I would greatly appreciate if you could bring this into fruition.
Four standard types of dependencies
Finish to start (FS)
Finish to finish (FF)
Start to start (SS)
Start to finish (SF)
HI @Ka_Nishiyama there are dependencies in Asana but do you mean the specific types listed?
When dealing with production/development projects a typical dependency is âbeginning-beginningâ.
For example: two step production
Task A: production step 1 takes 4 weeks for 400 parts
Task B: production step 2 can start after the first 100 parts (1 week after Task A started)
The dependency would be âbeginning-beginning +1weekâ
Is it possible to realize that?
Hi @Alex_Pot ,
Welcome to the forum! I donât believe that Asana supports any dependency type beside finish-start currently. That said, based on your use case, perhaps you could consider adding a subtask to Task A called first 100 parts delivered. You could then make subtask a predecessor for Task A and Task B and set the dependency management option to maintain buffer.
In practice, this would mean that if the first 100 units are not delivered (subtask), then you canât complete Task A or B (I think this is what you want). It also means that as long as you set up your dates correctly to start, shifting either Task A or its subtask should propagate changes to the other object AND Task B (again, I think this is what youâre seeking).
NOTE: the first 100 doesnât necessarily need to be a subtask (could just be a normal task), up to you.
Thatâs correct.
Keep in mind you canât create an unlimited number of dependencies đ˘ List of technical and data limitations in Asana
I would like to be able to create a rule
Task added to project â IF task is currently blocked â Move to this section
But the only option right now for the IF statement is if it is no longer blocked. Which is not helpful in my use case.
Sure, thanks @lpb!
Hi everyone and thanks for sharing your feedback in this thread!
Today, Iâm thrilled to announce we launched new dependency types! Previously, dependencies were limited to âFinish to startâ, Asana now offers:
-
Start-to-start
-
Finish-to-finish
-
Start-to-finish
With this update, you can easily update dependency types via the task pane and view new dependency lines on both Gantt and Timeline views.
Please note this update is currently only available to a select amount of customers and it will be available to all Premium, Starter and above plans.
