Automate goal progress by tasks from specific project sections

We need the ability to select sections within a project to update goal progress. Currently, each individual task must be connected to the goal in order to update the goal progress.

The current process assumes that single tasks or entire projects are connected to one subgoal. That doesn’t work for everything. Not every subgoal has an entire project. Some subgoals are smaller pieces of a larger goal and a few subgoals may be contained in a single project. It would be extremely helpful to select a section in one project to update a subgoal.

@Sami_Gatesman, I agree with you that it would be helpful, and in case you missed it, I provided a workaround that you can use now:

Until/if Asana offers this, you could use multi-homing (and rules to automate that multi-homing if on Business/Enterprise) to add all of a section’s tasks and milestones to another project and then instead make that project the reference for the goal (not the original project), @Joel_Lee, that could work for both of your feature requests, possibly. Also, another option (or could be used in combination) that could help is Automatic progress calculation by Milestones instead of tasks. I almost always prefer that option vs the tasks option.

@Emily_Roman, Would you consider reopening the topic @Sami_Gatesman linked to above? I think it would be good to do that because the feature launched didn’t actually address the request, and merge this topic into that one once re-opened.

Larry- thank you for your response! I also submitted a ticket on that old post and am hoping the Asana team will review and reopen it because, like you said, the original request was not necessarily satisfied.

I love the new automated goal progress feature. It has been hugely helpful. However, the only two methods of configuration for tracking goal progress is by tasks completed and milestones completed, within specific projects. Feature Request(s): Being able to hook up specific sections to a goal would be a game-changer.
