AI Studio Rule does not run in some projects

I have an AI studio rule that will identify an attachment based on the guidance I’ve provided (empty template forms) and then summarize the information in the task description. The trigger is “When attachment is added” and I also included a manual run of the rule. In some projects, adding an attachment to the task triggers the rule to run. However, in other projects built using the same guidance, the rule never triggers- event when I try to run it manually. It’s almost like the triggers are being ignored- I do not even see any of the typical reasoning or AI actions in the activity feed.

I am using an advanced license with the free AI studio, but have not hit my credit limit for the day or month. I complete the action required to meet the trigger in one project and the rule runs, in the other projects nothing I do will get the rule to run. I cannot recreate the project because it is already active- I’ll try also recreating the rule, but this sort of defeats the purpose of having things templatized (No access to bundles in Advanced)

I’ve included an image of the rule with details obscured- it is identical in both projects. The first project was the template for the following ones and included the rule when it was generated.
Any guidance or advice is greatly appreciated!

As a note- I’m using the Claude 3.5 Sonnet model

Hi @Joshua_Gist :waving_hand:

I’d suggest some first ideas to start troubleshooting.

1- Check the Activity in the task

You might have done that already, but in case of.

See screenshot

2- Check the rule history

Please let me know if those steps helped you to make some progress, so we can keep investigating further

Best of luck

Arthur

Hello Arthur,

As noted- in the projects where the rule is not triggering as I expect, there is no AI activity noted and the rule says it has not been run. It’s a complete mystery to me- In the project

Here you can see the activity from a project where the rule runs successfully, and the other where there is no activity after the trigger. The rule is identical across these projects.

I have many rules that run smoothly from templates and I’m feeling pretty comfortable with AI studio. What sort of support options are there? I think the troubleshooting that needs to take place is outside of my capability. I can provide access/details as needed, though I don’t want to share too much detailed information here in the forums.

Hey @Joshua_Gist

1- What does it say here? Or is it a different project?

2- Try to work on a different rule config

  • No conditions (no “Check if”)
  • Explain the 2 cases in your Guidance ‘prompt’, as well as the 2 behaviors.

=> Sometimes adding a condition is not required.
And in your case, it could be that somehow the conditions are not met, thus blocking the rule to trigger (even if I had expected some “event” in the task to show that).

3- Get in touch with the support

To reach the support go to Asana Support - Help Center • Asana - Asana Help Center - (make sure you are logged in to Asana) > click the chat icon at the bottom right > and speak to the chatbot to Create a support ticket.

Hope that helps, a little :upside_down_face:

I’m not sure I’m being clear - you identified the AI activity in one image. That is the project where the AI rule runs without issue. The other image I posted shows the same action in a project created from the first (as a template), but shows no activity. It’s not that the conditions are not being met, it’s that the trigger is not being recognized in the other project. No matter what action I take (attach document or run rule) nothing registers activity.

And as I noted above the rules are identical across the projects. Same “Check if” and triggers.

My question more simply is: Are there any reasons that a rule might run successfully in a project, but not in a project created from the template of the first? That is what I am experiencing.

Hey @Joshua_Gist

You are being clear, but sometimes, when facing a problem, users (including myself) don’t see all the possible issues. And listing the reasons why it could be not working can help to solve it.
I don’t work for Asana, I was just trying to help, this is what the forum is generally about

Are there any reasons that a rule might run successfully in a project, but not in a project created from the template of the first? That is what I am experiencing.

I don’t see any.

“As I noted above”, I would suggest contacting the support for complete custom answer.

Best of luck.
