AI rules in project templates: “Add instructions” missing – prompt cannot be edited o3

Hello everyone,

I’m on our Enterprise plan with AI Studio enabled and I’m running into the following problem. I’d appreciate your support—or a quick “+1” so the Asana team gives this more attention.

What’s going on?

• Context
– Enterprise plan, AI Studio switched on in the admin console
– Browser: Chrome (same outcome in Edge)
– In normal projects I can create AI rules with a prompt without any issues.

• Steps to reproduce

  1. Open a project template → Rules → Custom rule
  2. Select the trigger “Run rule manually”
  3. Select the action “Create task” and tick “Generate with AI”
  4. In the Task name field insert the variable “Use AI”

• Expected result
Under the field, a section called “Add instructions” should appear so I can enter the prompt and save the rule.

• Actual result
The section never appears, the rule remains incomplete, and the “Publish rule” button is greyed out.

• What I’ve already checked
– AI Studio enabled :white_check_mark:
– Enterprise plan :white_check_mark:
– Incognito window / other browser :white_check_mark:
– Removed empty condition card :white_check_mark:
→ Problem persists.

• Current work-around
I fully configure the AI rule in a normal project first and then convert that project into a template. This works, but it’s cumbersome—especially for prompt-engineering—because rules can only be created or edited before turning the project into a template.

• Questions for the community / product team

  1. Can you reproduce this behaviour in your templates?
  2. Is this a bug or simply a feature that hasn’t been enabled in template mode yet?
  3. Is there a roadmap for when the prompt editor will be available directly inside templates?

Thank you for any feedback!
Best regards,
Phillip

I’m afraid I’m not able to reproduce this. I get this:

Is there any chance you’re either:

  1. not entering a manual rule name (as shown), or
  2. not entering a value in the Guidance (I think you can’t see it, so perhaps not!)

Try these troubleshooting steps, then please create a support ticket: see How to contact our Support Team.

Thanks,

Larry
