Ability to Choose Task/Subtask For Condition & Action (Rules)

Please let me know if this has already been requested - I couldn’t find it anywhere but I could totally be missing it!

It is a huge limitation for us that the condition and action for a rule must be the same task/subtask.

There are many use cases for this, but one main one is => I have an approval subtask and I would like to create a rule that says “when the approval subtask status is changed” > do X with Task (that the subtask is under).

Right now, this isn’t possible because the condition & action need to apply to the same task/subtask.

Flowsana can currently do this, but they don’t have the option for “approval status” - I’ll probably end up just creating a custom field that will then trigger a rule in Flowsana, but it would be great for this to be added as an option in Asana.

Yay @Phil_Seeman!! That’s great news! Do you have any timeline that you can share right now? I’m working to build out our approval process now so I wanted to double check! Thank you!

I can’t promise for sure, but the current plan is to release it a week from today on 11/4.

Hi, has this been released? I have a use case where I need to change the main task status when a subtask’s field is changed.

Hi @Tomas_Korman,

Yes it has, but to be clear, Jess and I were discussing our Flowsana integration, so that’s where it was released.
