What is "Link contributing work"

Hello guys, I was going through goal permission table and I saw Link Contriburing Work, I was wondering what is this?

Hi Asmir,

It’s the work that is contributing to achieving this goal. This could be:

  • Sub-goals
  • Projects
  • Portfolios

Depending on the progress settings of the goal this could influence the progress towards achieving the goal.

Oh okay, I got it now, so in chart above it means that “Comment Only” user’s shouldn’t be able to link Portfolios, Project or Subgoals?

Thank you

Well that’s what I expected it would mean, but I’ve tested it and I am able to link projects/portfolios/tasks, just not connect parent or sub-goals.

@Forum-team is this expected behaviour?

Hi @Asmir_Coral and @Jan-Rienk, sorry for the delay! I can confirm that this is the expected behavior. Only parent and sub-goals are classified as “Contributing work,” which is why comment-only users are blocked from linking them.

Tasks, projects, and portfolios are considered “Related work.” Users with comment-only access can link these to the goals, as they are relevant to the goals but do not directly influence their progress.

Let me know if you have any questions! :slight_smile:
