Task Templates Creation from Task vs on Project

Briefly describe (1-2 sentences) the Bug you’re experiencing: 2 issues:

  1. When creating a Task Template from the Customize section in the project, I am not able to add Projects to the subtasks. This would be SUPER helpful so I don’t have to manually do this every time.

  2. When converting a task to a template (I solve for #1) I am unable to add relative due dates to the task.

Steps to reproduce:

  1. Create Task Template from the Customize section on the project, add a subtask and try to add a project to that subtask.
  2. Convert a task to a Task Template, create subtasks, try to add relative due dates

Hi @Gina_Morris and welcome to the forum!

Actually neither of these is a bug; what you’re seeing is the way that Asana is currently designed to work.

For your #1, you can vote for a change in that behavior here:

For your #2, you can vote for a change in that behavior here:

Thanks Phil!

I’ve voted for the #1 item you sent.

However, I don’t think #2 is quite the same. After I convert a task to a Task Template, the relative due date functionality is not available. Is that intentional?

Thanks!
Gina

@Gina_Morris,

You’re right, the thread I linked to for #2 is different.

However, I wasn’t able to reproduce your issue - when I added a task as a template and that task had subtasks, I was able to set relative due dates on the subtasks.

Could you perhaps take and post a screen video (or set of screenshots) illustrating the issue?

Sure thing, Phil!

Please see attached screenshot. This is a converted task to Task Template (forces due date). I am not able to add a relative due date.

Ah, OK - I can see the issue from your screenshot.

The task you’re showing in your screenshot is not the new task in the task template, but is the old “regular” task from which you made the template task.

You need to go to your task templates for that project and access the subtasks there. There you’ll be able to set relative dates on them.
