Suggestion: "Run Rules Now" button

Similarly, I’d like an ability to run any rule automation on any task. Just to be able to quickly add approval subtasks or similar to any task I want with the click of a button.

How long does it take for Asana to implement something simple. Almost 3 years pending.

Just a couple of notes:

  • The fact that this feature hasn’t been added may have little or nothing to do with the simplicity of implementing it; Asana evaluates the priority of their work on a number of factors, that being one of many.
  • Without having access to the Asana code base, we can’t know or weigh in on what is simple to do and what isn’t. Not looking for a fight here, just as a software developer for 40+ years, I try to keep things real when I can in terms of my craft.

Hope them improve it soon, because our companies’ members cannot understand whether new rules work correctly or no.
It’s really stressful now to wait long time.

PLEASE implement this. It feels like basic functionality.

It is actually not that easy, because for most triggers, “now” doesn’t mean anything. For example “due date changed”. What does it mean to “run now”? Or “task added to project”?

Personally, I would like to have this “RUN” button in the following cases:
After changing the due date of a task, move to the section by due date (this week, next week, next month, etc.)

“group by” > “due date” kinda does this out of the box already

It could be simpler when implemented for a single rule. To manually trigger the rule with a button instead of a trigger. (button run rule now functions as rule trigger)

I’m missing this functionality as some rules I’d like to execute when creating a project from a template. Now this can’t be done because first the tasks are added, and only then rules are activated. Having the option to manually trigger a rule would be helpful in my opinion.

A post was split to a new topic: Move to section and prevent rules from running

+1 for adding feature to force rule(s) to run. Even having a feature to force run within individual tasks or projects, as the owner, would work in my case. Specifically i’m having an issue with a few projects where, for example, a task is marked complete and should trigger the rule to move to section called “completed” however it does nothing but flip the task itself to complete. It happens at random, most tasks in this example do fallow the rule and move to the correct section. Others that do not, i need to manually click complete again, making it not completed task, then clicking complete once more brings it back to complete status and then the rule to move section is activated and usually works. However, some cases with multiple rules it may not always work, or re-triggers rules at incorrect stages in the workflow.

+1 to Force Rules or Run Rules on Existing Tasks. This would be extremely helpful as we create new rules that work for us but want to apply them to the existing tasks.
