For some, this is a viable workaround until/if the request is implemented, by using rules in combination with substituting either a single-select custom field or a custom task type for section; no manual updates would be required this way.
I am a CFO and I really tried to use Asana since it was selected by our team. I really wanted to empower and support this choice, though I never really cared for it. I manage each of my VPs by approving/greenlighting Projects, and then establishing Milestones to check-in against along the way. They were also really excited about the Goals feature, and so I approved an upgrade. Iâm really struggling with being able to create a workable list view that shows me Company Goal â Project â Milestone â Task. I typically donât manage to the task level, so i can actually do without that. Iâve tried to use Portfolios to aggregate all of this is one view, as well as other tricks, but I canât seem to get this basic logic out of any list view. Anyway, Iâve already spent way too much time on this and will probably go back to Excel which will piss my team off. But then they should also be happy that I donât pull the plug on Asana altogether! Huge waste of my time for something that should be fairly basic for a project management tool. It also boggles me that youâre telling customers to pursue a workaround for this by using master projects, and then at the same time donât allow hierarchies of projects (which could be a simple and viable idea: Master Project â Child Project â Child Project, etcâŚ). I thought this is what you were trying to solve with Portfolios? Who knows. Asana feels like a collection of half-implemented good ideas. Disappointing.
Ideally, weâd be able to set it up so that multi-day OOOs and important events could also show up as a bar in the timeline. Not just tasks and milestones as some have suggested.
That way we can see whether certain deadlines, events, and OOOs will clash
Just chiming in that it would be very helpful to see more than just milestones in the Portfolio Timeline. Or, if it is only milestones - then at least to see subtasks that are marked as Milestones in the Portfolio Timeline would be very helpful.
In addition, would love to see grouping by Assignee.
I also would like to see tasks in the portfolio timeline. I want to have a quick and easy overview of all the tasks in the pipeline within that portfolio rather than clicking through the timelines of every individual project.
I am considering switching away because Asana has a few very basic limitations that have been asked for in forums for years, and are not being addressed.
I agree that this is useful to us. We donât do a project for each thing we do. We do a project for each person with a list of projects and roll them up to the Department Manager. They can see all of the employeesâ projects in a portfolio. Except they canât. We need to be able to see the tasks under each personâs project. This seems pretty easy to me. Just add a flag to enable or disable per portfolio for those who donât want it. It has been asked for over 5 years in this thread. Make it happen
