Set first character of task type status as custom character if it is an emoji

New custom task types are great. And I like that you can now add a custom icon so that you can both have an emoji without having the first character showing up double.

What I find a bit convoluted though, is how to set the emoji.

  • Existing first character emoji’s arent ultilised as such and show up double
  • Navigating to “custom character” requires more steps than just inserting it as a first character.
  • To me - it’s not as intuitive as just putting the emoji in.

I’d propose that if an emoji is set as a first character, it gets utilised the same way as it does now when setting Custom character.

Likely combine it with removing any spaces in between the first character emoji and the name of the status option.

PS: @Richard_Sather I thought there already was a request about this, but I couldn’t find it.

Indeed, @Jan-Rienk , there isn’t. I have discussed it with @Peyton_Lee who is the PM for task types as I was hoping the experience would be similar to the saved view tabs. As we know, once you rename a saved view and the first character is an emoji, it simply replaces the default icon with an emoji.

Also, emojis as first characters aren’t yet supported on the mobile app, but that’s for another thread..
