I can’t figure out a way to have a rule that says “WHEN A TASK IS COMPLETE, CREATE A FOLLOW-UP TASK” (and assign it to someone and set a due date)… Seems like an obvious thing to want to do … Is there a possibility?
Hi @Damon_Hemmerdinger, thanks for reaching out!
It’s currently not possible to create a rule that will automatically create a follow up tasks when you mark a task complete. I think this could be a good idea and I’ve gone ahead and moved your thread to the #productfeedback category to allow other users to upvote. I hop you don’t mind!
Hello Damon,
Did you ever get any movement on this Product Feedback? I need to do this very thing.
Thanks.
Good Morning Emily,
I can’t seem to find this feedback item. I’d like to vote on it (vote for). This ability is very important to me. Please advise. Thank you.
Hi @Gerald_Thomas, if you scroll to the top of this thread you will see the Vote option
Hi @Emily_Roman!
I’d like to do something similar - I’d like to to be able to be able to set a rule where:
Trigger: Custom Field Updated
Action: Create a Follow-Up task
Should I create a separate thread for that request, or would it fall under this request?
I up-voted this one.
Thank you!
This would be such an important feature for us!
Right now we are manually creating follow-up tasks, in a very busy release board, and because of the human factor sometimes some tickets might fall through the cracks.
We would love something like:
- Trigger: Custom Field Updated
- Action: Create a Follow-Up task and set it to X days after the original ticket
I have up-voted it
Very looking forward to seeing this implemented!
It’s 2022…and I am also looking for this! Would love to be able to trigger a follow-on task when another task completes.
Hi @Emily_Roman
Has this come to fruition yet?
Is there any way to automatically generate a new/follow-up task when a task is completed?
Any updates on this possibility? Very much want to be able to generate a new task (in a different project) when a given field is updated. A rule that creates a subtasks doesn’t work since we can’t track them efficiently at the project level (no workload etc).
I am looking to set up that when a task is marked complete it automatically generates a follow-up task. (I want this only to apply to tasks in a specific section.)
Is those doable?
Are there any workarounds?
Does anyone know how to create this in Zappiper?
It would be amazing if a new rule integration could be the following…
Triggers: Completion Status
Actions: Add “Task” (currently is not an option/only subtasks) and within this task, be able to pull from the “Task template” library so that it can automatically link it OR being able to set the individual subtasks within this new “Task” creation option.
+1 for this feature. Would like to see a new Task as a rule action, not just Sub-task.
This would be amazing. I am facing this struggle right now.
Even better, if rules could be created for sub-tasks. I need all of the automation I can get!!!
Hi folks,
I’m excited to share that you can now create tasks, milestones and approvals with tasks Choose a trigger or combination of triggers, and Asana will create the task when the rule runs. You can pre-select the task name, assignee, relative due date, and more.
To create a task with a rule:
- Navigate to Customize in the top-right corner of your project
- Click + Add rule, then Create custom rule
- Choose a trigger or combination of triggers
- When the trigger is selected, click the Actions tab
- Under Create new, select Task
In this specific case, you could create the following rule:
