Rule malfunctioning: Rule keeps actioning itself over and over instead of once.

Hi there,

I am trying to create a rule on Asana where one custom date field change triggers multiple actions (creates subtasks, sets a due date, and adds the task to a separate tracking project). I’ve created rules like this before but when I tested this one, it kept firing which added the same subtasks stipulated in the rule again and again until I went into the rule itself and paused it.

Am I experiencing a bug? I have tried deleting the rule and creating it again but get the same result. What am I doing wrong?

Could a rule that is fired in the other project change the date so that this rule is started again?

This might happen if the subtasks you created are multi-homed into the same project

I’ve checked every rule that acts on this the date field, none could be causing this. If they reference the date field at all, its as a trigger not an action

They are created in a “master project” then additionally homed in a second project. Would that be the cause?

Can I see a screenshot of the “create subtasks” action in your rule please?

Hi @EmilyW , have you tried within the rule editor, in the top right corner, ... choose Do not trigger by other rules (or something along those lines).

Just curious if that would perhaps solve it by not triggering itself.
