Roll-Up field in Portfolios to allow other functions besides SUM

Hi All,
I LOVE the roll up field and I know many people enjoying the feature. However, is there any future plan or discussion around making the roll up field perform more calculations other than SUM? For example, we have a numeric field in a project but we want the Average value at each section. Then when we add these projects to a portfolio and use a roll-up it is summing that field, but we want the average (not currently available).
Is this possible? A future update?
Thanks,
Kelsea :unicorn: :butterfly:

Hi @Kelsea_Lopez I was thinking the same thing not too long ago! I recently discovered that if you click on the “SUM” it will open a menu to change the value. I think this is what you’re looking for!

Thanks Brittany  Unfortunately, that’s still only editing the calculation in the Project. I am wondering about the ability to do this in the portfolio as a roll up field (not a custom field in a project). I have the project column set to “Average” in each project, but in the portfolio as a roll-up, it only sums everything

Hey @Kelsea_Lopez , that would be great, I agree!

But I think it might be best that I move this to the Product Feedback category where others can vote on and get the attention of the Asana developers.

What do you think?

Can someone please explain the rollup field? I am intrigued!

Hi @Julie_Howell , sure! In your Portfolio (available in Advanced/Business tier or above) go to Customize>Add field>Add rollup (look for the tab along the top). Asana will recommend numberic-type fields that are within the projects in your Portfolio.

Hi everyone, I’m excited to announce you can now use a new rollup function in formula custom fields to aggregate values from projects up to the portfolio level. This powerful enhancement allows you to create a single source of truth for resource management data, significantly improving reporting, workload planning, and automation capabilities.

Previously, rollups were limited to portfolio views. With this update, data created via these rollup formula custom fields can be used in project-level automations, universal and portfolio workload, reporting features, and as inputs to other formulas.

Feel free to reach out via the Tips and Tricks category if you have any questions!
