Reporting on time taken by project/task

It’s taken us a while to try and work this out, and still trying to nail it down.

We have figured out the best place to house several clients is with > Portfolios, then add jobs into that as > projects, then within that > tasks the specific aspects of the project, ie, copywriting, design etc.

We then want to generate reports on time taken per > project (ie per job) is this doable? Or does it generate it per task? We need this to see effectively and easily see how long certain people have taken on a task, or at very least, as a team, how long it has taken to complete that Project (job).

And is the above outlined way the best way to set up multiple clients with multiple jobs in Asana?

we are on Asana Business - is this sufficient to do all we need to do, as described above - particularly the reporting.

Hi @keith_evans! Product Manager on Reporting here.

You can do this at the task, project, and portfolio level using our time tracking features. See that link for an overview.

In order to do it at the project and portfolio level I recommend you use the rollup custom field type. This will allow you to roll up all the values at the project level to see them in a portfolio.

Once you set this up, you can use the dashboard tab anywhere (project, portfolio, nested portfolio, or even using universal reporting across objects) to create a report by selecting the actual time metrics to visualize time spent.

Let me know if that is useful!
