Realtime (or near) intake of emails from Google/Outlook as a trigger for AI Teammates (or other workflows)

When I receive an email, it would be great if an AI Teammate could analyse it and decide what actions need to be taken. Actions could include creating/closing tasks, drafting a reply, updating statuses, etc. MCP integrations could trigger actions in other tools, e.g. if the AI Teammates sees an email with an invoice from a supplier, it could create a corresponding entry in my accounting software.

You can configure these workflows in Microsoft Power Automate and use it to take action in Asana, but it doesn’t have the Work Graph context/primitives that make AI Teammates better when working principally in Asana.

I’m fairly certain this can be developed using Microsoft Graph.

@Andrew_Gay 's post in this thread made me think something like this is coming, but I’m wondering if the less powerful version of this is the native solution mentioned. You could create a repeating ‘review my inbox’ task and assign an AI Teammate to it, but this is interval-based polling, and not a reactive solution.

It seems to me this is already possible. AITs can get access to Gmail and Outlook email, and you can tell them to check periodically and act. Basically polling instead of responding to a webhook. It would be near real time.

Of course, at the current pricing it would get very expensive, very fast. You’d be better off using another AI to check your email, cross-reference Asana for relevant tasks, then forward only specific emails into Asana for your AIT.
