Hello Asana Community,
I am raising an issue and feature request regarding the interaction between the Asana for Gmail add-on and Asana AI capabilities.
The Problem:
When we use the Gmail add-on to create an Asana task, the email content is synced to the task. However, Asana AI does not appear to be able to “read” and analyze this content if it remains solely within the add-on surface. Our goal is to leverage the AI to automatically generate summaries or action items from these newly created tasks.
Current Workaround:
We must manually copy the key details from the email body into the task description or a comment to ensure the AI has a clear view of the context and can generate accurate analyses. This manual step defeats some of the efficiency gained by using the add-on to sync the email in the first place.
The Feature Request:
We strongly request an enhancement that allows Asana AI to directly analyze the email content that is automatically synced into the task via the Google integration, even if it is not explicitly copied into the task description.
Context from Support:
Asana Support confirmed that this is currently not possible, as the AI primarily pulls from core fields like the task description or comments. They also let me know that this request has been noted as a specific feature request for the Product team. We believe this capability would significantly streamline workflows for all teams that rely on the Gmail add-on for task intake.
Has anyone else encountered this limitation or found another effective workaround? Please upvote if this would improve your team’s process!
