Regarding your questions:

  1. You will be able to find the answer here: How did this happen? subtasks duplicated as parent tasks in same project

  2. By moving the along in the workflow not sure if you refer to the timeline view as well? If so then subtasks don’t show up there yet, if you wish to have this feature as well I recommend to upvote: Timeline - Schedule Subtasks
