New colors coming to Asana!

Thanks for trying to keep things fresh, but this new scheme is too dull. I do not like it and I would like to have the option to keep the original colors. I need things to pop out at me as I’m looking at tasks and managing various people. It all looks too similar now and not to mention the colors are muted. Please provide us the option to use the new colors or keep using the original colors.

Hi,

If you log into Asana and think something is wrong with the visuals, you all have made a mistake. The colors choices are contrived and reek of the trying to do to much with something that wasn’t broken.

Every time I look at the screen it feels like someone turned the brightness and contrast up too high on my monitor. Reconsider this color palette, there are already enough people concerned that in this chat to warrant reconsidering.

Worse case is I will take my business elsewhere. Thank you for your time in these matters.

“Here and through other channels” seems to imply that you are receiving positive feedback about this change elsewhere. Could you share where that is? Because based on this thread the feedback is entirely negative.

The color scheme was not broken for mosts users. For those with impaired vision, an accessibility feature would make more sense. “Standardisation” is not the solution to inequality. Personalization is.

Please give us the option to choose our color palette and make it simple that way we can customize.

+1. I noticed immediately that something was different because i could no longer tell the difference between two of the colors i was using for tags.

VERY hard to distinguish with the new colors and quite frankly I felt depressed after seeing the new color scheme.

Feels like I’m viewing the screen in an old-time movie.

No. No no no. Please change the pallet back. One of our team’s biggest uses for Asana is the ability to differentiate colors for our various projects, custom fields, calendar, etc. With this new palette it is so hard to tell the colors apart, and looking at them even hurts our eyes. There is just not enough contrast. I’ve been a long-time user of your software and have loved it despite its other shortcomings, but this is such a major part of its usability to change that we might have to go with something else if nothing is done about it. That would be such a shame, considering how many hours we’ve put into customizing the system for our team and others in the company.

I noticed it immediately!! It does look more “dull,” but at the same time, I do avoid using the brighter colors for the column options (that red especially!). I am not sure how I feel about using the desaturated colors in the whole UI though. My sidebar looks a little less bright this morning.

I agree with all of the previous commenters. These new colors are killing my eyes and I’m 32 with near perfect vision. Our entire branding palette as a business is bright colors. I can’t read or differentiate anything, and honestly the last thing I want is a calm experience. I want to be able to tell when something is urgent, flagging something a dull brick color or a soft yellow won’t raise any flags for me that something is urgent

Not a fan of the new colors. They’re too dull. I’d love to have them in the palette of choices though. Why not make it broader and allow us to choose from the new colors and the old? Why is it either/or? Please make it both!

It would be interesting to know how many people have needed to turn on color blind friendly mode since this change occurred.

No idea how anyone could say this change improves accessibility. Contrast on so many elements has been reduced!

Very disappointing update, and I’m sure our teams will start complaining any minute now.

We got the updated colors and my feedback is that they make it worse to use Asana.

  • The colors are harder to differentiate from each other and images.
  • The muted tones are a downer. It’s not fun to use anymore.
  • It just feels like the contrast on my computer has been turned way down.

I have to echo the sentiment that the muted color scheme is not a positive change from my perspective. I use colors to differentiate team members and tasks, and the new lack of contrast has made this rather difficult.

I would greatly prefer the ability to choose between color themes and pallets rather than this narrowing of choices.

“To ensure a consistent user experience” - so to ensure a consistently bad user experience?

It’s not just that some of us don’t like the color scheme – many who have issues with their vision like me literally CAN’T use it, not due to the colors for tags, but the CONTRAST on the main feed and across the text. But your decision after a backlash not even 24 hours later is “potential future changes”. So you don’t care that 90% of the feedback has been negative?

Well you just lost someone who’s been advocating for Asana across all workspaces they worked in for the past three years. I wish you nothing but the best in your “consistent user experience”.

It looks more dull now. Its hard to distinguish between projects. Red and Green color looks so pale nd doesnt stand out. I would not recommend this pallet. Please change it back to original one or more vibrant color.
I tried to change color with Blind option too, but still looks so odd.

Hey Asana team, thanks for working hard to make improvements.

Still I want to share feedback:

  1. I was a little confused today if something was broken.
  2. Just adding a voice that seems duller or more nighttime mode.
  3. teal and green are super close which is a bummer for our status page.
  4. overall makes asana for more dull and sad vibes
  5. colors overall seem way more similar… so the contract on a single item may be improved but overall harder to tell status/tags apart.

+1 for allowing more customization and more options.

Please bring back the old scheme, or allow a toggle between the two. My team is not happy with the changes and the new feeling of de-saturation.

If there’s a toggle for extra celebration, why not give a toggle for a brighter experience?
