Need Help Setting Up a Specific Rule in Asana

Hello everyone,
I am trying to set up an automated rule in Asana and need your advice. Currently, I can create a rule that modifies a custom field in the parent task when a subtask is completed. However, I want the modification to happen directly on the subtask involved. Specifically, I would like that, upon completion of a subtask, a custom field in that subtask is automatically set to “No.”

Does anyone know how to configure this, or if it’s even possible to do so? Any help or guidance would be greatly appreciated!

Thank you in advance for your support and advice.

@Olivier_Simard,

This rule will accomplish what you ask (substitute your custom field for the LB Priority example):

Note that it runs on both tasks and subtasks so you’ll have to make sure it doesn’t catch any tasks that you don’t want it to apply to. In the screenshot, I showed an example of focusing on subtasks only by an ANDed condition that the subtask may be of a certain type (the presumption being that the parent task would not have that type so it wouldn’t not be triggered by this rule).

May I move this topic out of this private category so 600k+ others can benefit from it?

Thanks,

Larry

Hello LPB,
I want to thank you for your prompt and enlightening response on the forum. Your assistance was invaluable and helped me realize my mistake: I had selected the trigger “Task completion status changed,” and then chose “all sub-tasks” in the start trigger When.

Regarding your request to share our exchange, I completely agree to make this conversation public. If it can benefit the community of 600,000+ members, that would be fantastic.

Thank you again for your support and responsiveness.
