Meet our new Task option Menu

Hi folks,

Just wanted to let you know we’re starting to roll out a new version of our task option menu (See screenshot below). The main goal of this update is to make it easier for you to take a current task (or subtask), and move it to be a subtask of another task, instead of the current method that requires drag & drop. We also took this opportunity to re-order to the task option menu, hoping you will find clearer and easier to use.

Note that this update has only been rolled out to 25% of our users so far; if it all goes well, it should be available to everyone in the next couple of weeks. As always, feel free to post your questions and comment below; we look forward to reading you!

Thanks, @Marie; “Make a Subtask of…” is a great addition!

But the placement of “Add to Project” within the “Move Task” menu is not right because the task is not itself moving at all.

I think either:

  1. “Add to Project” should be in the top-level menu, or
  2. Change the sub-menu name from “Move Task” to something a little more broad (“Reorganize Task >” maybe?); that would allow keeping “Add to Project” within the sub-menu, and now you could also include “Duplicate Task…” in the sub-menu as well.

This is great! Will it work for Board view also?

Is there a way to opt-in for this feature before it’s fully rolled out?

Hi @anthonyprice :wave:t3:

Yes this new menu will be available for both List and Board projects! Unfortunately, we can’t manually enable this new feature for specific users, but it should be available to everyone very soon!

@Marie is it true you can not chose the project at the top Level anymore? This would be a Big loss of ux. I use this workflow very much. Now I have to do 2 clicks more to add the task to a project?

HI @OSTMOST,

Yes, to add a task to a project, you must select “…” > “Move Task” > “Add to a Project”. But if you want to access this option quickly, I’d recommend using the “Tab+P” shortuct, which will take you straight into the Project field, and allow you to quickly add your task to a project.

Hope this helps, let me know if you have any follow-up questions!

Wait a tick, did I miss something… what is “Mark as Milestone”? Are milestones a thing in Asana now?

Hi @OSTMOST, just to let you know this new menu has now be rolled out to 100% of our users!

Where did you see this in screenshot?

Is “Move Task” new?

I don’t remember seeing it before. And it has the function “make subtask of,” though it seems to only work on one task at a time. But I question why? Seems like this functions a lot like “add to project” which I can perform on multiple tasks at once, so why can’t I do multiple “make subtask of” task changes at once? This would save me from having to drag tasks one-by-one to make them subtasks.

Is this already on the list of possible updates? If not, please add it. I know it would save me a lot of time.

Thanks for jumping in @Phil_Seeman! Merging this thread to avoid duplicates!

Aw dang, it’s a conspiracy! Looks like the post was edited, and I’m guessing it was swapping out the old screenshot for a new one, presumably from their dev build vs the publicly available.

So, I guess milestones might become a thing…

I’ve started using the feature and it is great.

Features with a high functional return like this is where you strike gold.

Lovely feature. Make the Sub task, a sub task of another task. Nice Feature.

Sweet. How about mobile?

I spent my commute planning and organising. I have missed the functionality there.

@Marie you promised me that you would look at pinning the Task panel when you were looking at it anyway. Is it next time around?

Hi @Michael_C_Kring,

This new functionality is only available on the web, but I’m confident it will be rolled out to mobile at some point. I don’t have any timeline to share at the moment, but I’ll make sure to keep you posted!

Regarding your second point, this is something we will evaluate next time we’ll be revamping the task panel; when we do I’ll make sure to announce it in the Forum to keep you in the loop. Thank you so much for your patience and your precious feedback, we really appreciate it!

I agree, the “Add to project” should be in the top-level menu like before.

@Marie, I hope my several suggestions (with 7 likes and some supporting comments):

made it to the product team for consideration…thanks!
