After the latest Asana update, I lost the ability to see subtasks in projects if the main tasks are sorted in any way.
After this change, some of our workflows were disrupted cuz, for example, all our regular monthly tasks were organized as subtasks, and now our team members simply can’t see them in the main task list
Today’s behavior is yet different than other days.
We have pre-made list views at the top of the page.
One day, any given list view might show the subtask arrow. Other days, it won’t.
Currently, as of 8am this morning, even setting the project to have NO filters, no groupings, no sorting, I still get no dropdown arrow to expand subtasks, on List view.
I can get it in Gantt view as long as I have NO filters on, which is still nearly useless because my team NEEDS very much to be able to filter them.
sorting removes the ability to see subtasks. I’m not sure why Asana doesn’t automatically sort by due date, and why sorting by due date removes the ability to see any subtask drop downs. i’ve been asking about this for over a year and haven’t gotten any good answers as to why this isn’t a priority since being able to sort by due date - at least in my mind - is a pretty basic function of project management. I hope there will be a fix soon!
Looking forward to your reply! Unfortunately, support was of no help to me and gave general replies, not helpful at all and not understanding that the dropdowns were previously working. Since last week these disappeared and now we are forced to work with sections and rules? Hopefully there will be a fix soon, as most Views that we have are Column Value (filters/grouped by) based.
Any response from the Asana team?
This issue has been going on for a week and I consider it a matter of collective urgency.
When will this be resolved?
I’ve not received any word on whether they’re treating this as a bug or if this is expected behavior. On August 9, @Vanessa_N said they were checking on this internally.
The response I received from Asana Support on August 11 was to use the workaround I talked about above (changing ‘Group By’ to ‘Sections’ and turning off all custom sorts and filters) and that my ticket was put on hold while they check further with their Engineers.
I had to create a new, temporary project and multihome only the tasks I wanted to expand and manually sort within sections, which is unfortunate because our primary project worked incredibly well when we were able to expand the tasks (we have it grouped by custom field, sorted alphabetically)
If I hear anything more via Asana Support, I’ll post an update.
Hi everyone, sorry for the delay. The Product team has confirm that this behavior is related to the A/B test, as mentioned earlier in the thread. The feature is currently unavailable for some users because the experiment is being re-run.
The Product team knows this feature is highly requested and hopes to bring it back soon if the new A/B test goes well. We appreciate your patience while they work to bring this feature back
Hi @ChelsD, sorry for the delay. I haven’t received an ETA yet, but I’m keeping an eye on it with the Product team. I’ve also asked them to review the issue where the expand option isn’t showing up even when there’s no sorting or filtering. I hope we can at least get that part available sooner.
@Kelley_Breslow I had to have my team quit their desktop app and reload for them to appear. I really hope that works for you and that this is global so we can all celebrate!
