Limited rules to one section in a project

Hello!

I have added a rule to a section. In List view, I’ve hit the three dots next to a section name, and clicked “add rule to section”. I’ve selected the “status is changed > move task to a certain section” preset. I’ve set up the rule so when the status is set to Review, the task moves to a “Review” section.

However, this rule is running on tasks in all sections on the board… not just the one through which I set up the rule. I’d thought that since I added the rule by specifically clicking “add rule to section”, it would only add the rule to that section - not the whole board. Is this not the case? How can I make a rule that’s limited to one section only?

Welcome, @HelenaM,

You’ll need a “Check if” portion that states the section name, like this:

That is added by default in the case you mentioned. But all rules exist at the project, not section level, so it’s the “if” conditions that restrict to section or other conditions.

If this and the Asana Help on rules doesn’t resolve your issue, post a screenshot of your rule so we can help debug.

Thanks,

Larry

Hello @HelenaM

Yes, the rules are set on a project level, but as Larry stated, you can make the rule specific to that section by using the condition.

You add many conditions. For example, check that the task is in section (x) AND status is set to review, then move to task to new section.

Here is a screen shot to show you how to add the addition condition.
