There’s never been such a limit, so it sounds like something else is going on.
What do you mean by “mail task?”
Does it happen with every task or just this one? Can you try a new task to see?
Can you provide more context?

As @lpb notes above, it’s not clear what you mean by “mail tasks”, but the two 20-subtask limits documented in those points might be at play for you here.
So if @Flavio_Sonis is composing a rule action (he didn’t mention anything about that) then those limits would apply. Thanks, @Phil_Seeman!

Since we need more than 20 subs tasks can you please recommend an alternative to our approach?
The way we run our projects now is all done with tasks and subtasks.
This is for all of our marketing efforts.

One option is to use our Flowsana integration - our Add subtasks rule action doesn’t have a limit on the number of subtasks you can add.
Thank you for the response. Will be happy to use flowsana but I am using a business corporate account and I doubt they will let me add any external workflows. Unless flowsana works on the outside and there is nothing to integrate??

Ps: how other people goes around this issue? Because rules don’t allow you to upload templates and our approach is to have an intake form and based on the type of work a rule it generates a bunch of subtask
You will have to grant permission for Flowsana to access your Asana information. Other than that, there’s no visible aspect within Asana that you need.
Interesting… can I try it out and see if it will do what is needed?
