Is it possible to transfer Rule Ownership?

Previously we only had one user who was in charge of managing most of our Asana templates and rules. However, we want to add some flexibility into who can manage the rules across our projects to allow for users to cover for each other during vacation or leaves of absence.

I understand that you can toggle the “Only you can edit this rule” feature, to lock everyone else out from a rule. However, this doesn’t really work when we want to limit editing to only two or three users, but we have 10’s of users who need editing permission on a Project.

  1. Is there a way to enable only a select few users to edit rules?
  2. If it isn’t possible to do question 1, is there a way we can transfer ownership of a rule? We’d rather not have to rebuild every single rule just to give access to a shared user account.

Thanks in Advance!

That’s a good question!

You can if you add the rules to a bundle.

:information_source: This does require an Enterprise level license.

For more information on how to use bundles well I’d refer to this article:

If you don’t have an Enterprise level license you could set up a project pair.

1) Rule project
This project is to manage the workflow. Here the work enters, rules are added, and editors are able to modify the rules.

  • Add a rule to add all new tasks to the work project.
  • If you want rules to be triggered by sections, you can use a single select custom libary field that has all sections as values to keep the tasks in sync over multiple projects (Requires two rules in both projects: when section changes set field, and when field changes set section)

2) Work project
This is where the work happens.

  • Add all fields used to your library and both projects.
  • Add everyone who needs to work in the project.
  • The only rules you need in this project and can’t prevent from being edited are the ones that keep the sections between projects in sync.
