Import tasks in existing project from template

Dear,

How can you import the task / complete section (from a project template) into an existing project.
Note: using a CSV or so is not an alternative. I would expect this functionality in Asana.

Niels

You cannot. A project template would always create a new project. But the, you can manually move tasks from the new project to the existing one. You can’t move the section though. Are you asking about a section template though?

@Bastien_Siebman : Thanks for the answer.

I do not want to move tasks between a project. I want to use the tasks from the template in an existing project.

We are following sprints (with different topics) and the tasks beloing to a sprint are caprtured in the project template per section. It can be during a project that we add a sprint. I want to import that section (with the task) from the template to the project. Because it contains all the baseline tasks.

So you want a “section template”, correct?

Maybe I’m looking for a Section template yes.

Then you should read this 💡 How to have a section template, especially the “edit” at the top

Thanks for the input. But this is not going to work, because some tasks have been adjusted and you do not have the baseline task anymore, which we need.

I also think there is too often a workaround needed, but that is an Asana issue and not your fault.

I don’t understand. Adjusted tasks where? in the template? or in the existing project? Do you have an example to share with real task names?

So, I create a project based on a template with 5 sprints (section per sprint). During execution the tasks of the sprints have been assigned, executed, updated, etc. Now we come to the agreement that we need to have a 6th sprint.

There is no way or to import a section from the template. Making a duplicate of another section in the sprint is also not possibe, becasue the tasks of that section have been adjusted and are not the baseline anymore.

What contains a “sprint section”? Sounds like an empty section to me, unless you have some kind of admin tasks there

For us it contains various tasks to complete the sprint. No all sprints (sections) are the same, depending on the topic of the sprint.
