History & Rollback - Task/Milestone Description

Relatively new to Asana.

It’s so easy to accidentally delete a task/milestone description and I assume many of us like to include a lot of detail in there for context etc.

Crazy that there isn’t a version history/rollback feature. The CTRL+Z / Undo / CMD+Z “advice” sucks. It’s limited and most of the time, it doesn’t work for me.

Assuming I was being stupid, I asked the AI Chat Bot how to rollback/undo and the advice given was:

If only the task description was cleared (not the task deleted), there isn’t a built-in rollback or version history to restore it. The undo option only appears briefly right after an action like deletion.

If you didn’t catch that undo moment, your best bet is to check:

Your Inbox or email notifications for earlier copies of the task content

Any teammates who may have seen or copied it

Did that help, or can you share how the description was removed so I can suggest a closer workaround?

Asana Team - we shouldn’t have to rely on other team members or e-mail notifications (which most of us won’t have on or our inboxes would be pinging all the time) to manually roll back a key component of any task/milestone.

Is this on the roadmap for development / being considered?

Current Workaround: I’m copying and pasting the description as a comment in the task in case I lose it, but it makes it so messy. And a manual workaround I shouldn’t need to do - especially when I have 10s/100s tasks to manage. Let alone getting others to try and follow the process.

Welcome, @JC01,

In case you weren’t aware, changes are tracked in the audit trail stories, though there’s some consolidation so it may not be as granular as you like, but it’s the best workaround for now:
