Guest users not visible in Asana project

I added the organization’s guest users to a shared project in Asana, but they continue to see each other as private users. How can I make private users see each other?

Hi @Ксения_Методолог

Have you added both to the project? If they aren’t members of the project itself they won’t be able to see each other.

Here is a great reference for this btw Who sees whom, a guide to guest visibility with Batman & Robin

@Bastien_Siebman and I have both seen this same thing and we believe maybe there’s a bug or a change to how this feature operates.

See his post about it here:

@Forum-team, Any chance you could look into this?

@Christine_Bolton, as a result, I’ve unmarked your solution for the moment; hope that’s ok.

Thanks,

Larry

Yes, I am the project admin in a single shared project, but even in a shared project, I see guests as private users.

@lpb - Larry, thanks for spotting that!

@Ксения_Методолог I have reported this as a bug, as this is not the expected behaviour. We will be in touch with any findings when possible!

Of course! I wasn’t aware of the bug. Glad it’s been flagged & hope it gets resolved soon!

Guests in a project are suddenly appearing as private users.

For example on my end, I could see John Doe yesterday but now he’s ‘private user’ to me. I also have a 2nd guest, Jane Doe

On the flip side, John Doe doesn’t see me as a private user but sees Jane Done as one.

Welcome, @Ain_Roesley, and sorry.

I’ve merged your post into an existing topic where this apparent bug was already reported and you can follow along there.

Thanks,

Larry

Hi! Are there any updates or news on this issue?

We have got the same issue across all client Asana workspaces. Quite the inconvenience as certain members now can no longer be assigned tickets nor tagged in comments.

Hi Asana,

Both of my guest is already in the board with editor access, however they still see each other as ‘private users’ how do I resolve?

Hi @Nick_Lee7 , welcome to the forum :waving_hand:

That’s strange. Perhaps the behaviour has changed. Try adding them to the same Team or, if that isn’t suitable, just create a new Team for the both of them. That should resolve it.

I think this is the bug that’s being discussed here:

Oh I missed that, @Phil_Seeman, thanks! Merging into that thread..

Hello!

In Asana, guests show as “private users” if they aren’t properly added to the same project. To fix this, ensure both guests are explicitly added as project members with their correct emails, remove and re‑add them if needed, and check workspace settings so guests can see each other’s profiles.
