TL;DR: how are people organizing their Searches and Reports/Dashboards?
This could maybe stand to be two tickets, but they are along the same lines: I want to be able to create folders or a “house” for searches and dashboards/reports without just starring them and keeping them in my side panel.
I have a bunch of starred folders, projects, reports, etc. and my side panel gets to be a lot. It’s actually pretty difficult to keep organized. I find that saving searches or dashboards are difficult because they are hard to find on a regular basis, especially searches.
Searches: I have a handful of searches that I have starred on my side panel because I can’t recreate the filters in a report (example: due date filter can be “up until” in a search, but a report only has “within the next” which excludes anything that’s overdue"). Ideally I’d just have these in reports so I can have everything I want to reference for my team’s progress in one place, but that’s not possible right now. How have other people solved this?
Reports & Dashboards: sometimes I want dashboards that aren’t necessarily portfolio dashboards, but they are related to the team that owns the portfolio. I don’t necessarily want the dashboard to be on the portfolio itself, but I want it to live as an entity in the portfolio, similar to projects and other portfolios. How have other people solved this?
I have mine in 2 different places. I keep them saved in my Private Notepad within the Home view and saved as bookmarks so I can quickly get to them later.
Once you have the search set up, you can just copy the URL from the address bar and use that link to get back to it in the future.
I don’t save them in the sidebar because they removed the ability to keep saved searches separated from favorites awhile back.
Oooh I hadn’t thought about using the Home section that way. That’s actually better than what I was thinking. If I could just use that Home section as a “favorites” board, that would be amazing. Seems like I could do that with my portfolios, projects, forms, but not reports or searches.
Dashboards can have Text widgets (not just Chart widgets) so you can use one or more of those paste the copied save search URL as Skyler mentioned but collect them here, in Text widgets, as opposed to the Home Private notepad widget. Then you’re able to group everything in the Dashboard.
Another approach, if you don’t mind them separate, and especially if you want to provide many ways to group, sort, and filter your saved searches, is that you could create a reference project to house these. Use one task per saved search link, name the task by your friendly name of the search (perhaps the current saved search title), include a URL text field, paste the saved search URL there. It will show a clickable “Visit link” icon to navigate to the URL in a new tab/window.
@Rachel_Hazen I actually have a private Team and I use the Curated Work on the team page to save Asana searches, frequently used projects and portfolios, as well as external links. I like this option because you can create sections to make things easier to find.
Thanks! I do this for some references for my team, especially for onboarding reference. I guess I hadn’t really thought about it for my own daily tasks. Thanks for the idea!
