Would love the ability to have an Asana widget tool that I can add my days top priority tasks to as needed. The purpose of the widget would be a “sandboxed” type window that is simplified and probably has the ability to be pinned to top level of screen so that you can have a constant reminder of the “must-do” tasks of the day.
I know this can sorta be built out using a simple project and multi-honing, then resizing the window. But I feel like it would be awesome for Asana to simply have this type of feature natively.
The “My Tasks” screen is great, but lacks some filtering capabilities and I would rather leave it alone and just do a “Send to Hotlist” type workflow
Not sure if I am alone in this. But while I do love Asana, I can often get sidetracked in it because I have so many tasks assigned to me across many projects. Although the new time tracking feature is helping with this greatly.
I often revert to just breaking out a post-it note and writing the tasks down physically. But thats got me thinking… it would be so nice to have a clean simple contained window that I can send tasks to so that they remain highly visible to me
I agree this would be useful. The way I am doing things right now: the section at the top of my My Task view is my top priority. All other sections can be closed so I can have focus.
I actually just realized that my “My Tasks” page had been set to filter by due date and was not allowing me to add a section. I switched over to custom sections and see now that the Asana team intended us to achieve this workflow via this setup.
I think this will help get me closer to what I am trying to achieve. But still think there’s value to a simple widget tool!
Especially if a Pomodoro can be built into it (which, is there actually a pomodoro tool? Ive always seen it mentioned in settings… but never seen any pomodoro despite it being enabled…
@lpb - thanks very much for the article. Quickly browsed just now and looks to be super useful. Identified a few tips right off the bat that I will be implementing! Definitely have been under utilizing the My Tasks view. Starting to understand it and am excited at how powerful it can be!
Regarding Pomodoro… what is this I see in my settings all about?
Re Pomodoro settings: I stand corrected; sorry! I don’t use the Desktop app and I don’t believe this is documented anywhere. Is it an A/B test, @Forum-team?
I am also a business user and have never been able to find or use the pomodoro features, i only see options for it in settings.
But I also second the request to have an always visible and on top widget that is a small and minimalist list of my tasks, so that it’s always there for me.
I investigated this further and I realised we used to call the widget “My priorities” back in 2022 when we launched it. At the moment, the widget is called My Tasks, and it shows you your list of tasks sorted by due date, which helps you have an overview of your most important tasks with one click This widget is currently only available when you have the Asana desktop app opened.
You can follow this steps to access the widget:
In your system tray, there should be an Asana icon
Once the timer is over, a 5-minute break timer will start
After the break, the timer will reset, and you can start another one, if needed.
You can change Pomodoro settings in the “General” tab in the Desktop app settings.
If you are having trouble populating tasks in the My tasks widget or starting the pomodoro timer, could you please clear the cookies of your desktop app or restart your laptop?
