Defer / Postpone the creation of a task

Hi,

it would be great if we could have tasks that are being created later in time thanks to rules.

For example I’m working on a Membership Onboarding / Offboarding project. We want to have quaterly outreach to different members (businesses) so I’m thinking of having a Milestone with the name of the company and subtasks for the different quaterly reminders. But they are being created all in advance when another trigger happens in the project. Our Community Engagement Manager might get inundated with tasks that could be 9 months from now.

It would be nice if we could have a rule where you set up the creation of a task, 30 days, 90 days after the trigger (fopr example the completion of another task)

Isn’t your request for the “Relative date” feature?

Hi @Virginie6 , it sounds like this amy be the root of the problem that you are naturally trying to avoid.
However, people having tasks assigned to them that are months away isn’t necessarily a bad thing. It has it’s advantages such as populating workload graphs and feeding dashboards.

You may want to explore ways with the Engagement Manager of how they manage their My tasks and how they could hide the tasks that are months out by using filters and exploring the use of various saved view tabs.

Here is a great article by @lpb

Just my 2 cents.

Hi,

No, this creates a due date relative to the trigger. I would like the creation of the task itself to be created X days after I completed another task for example.

The rule to assign task as date is approaching could be the work around, but I tested it over the weekend and it didn’t work. Not sure why…

Hi, @Virginie6

This might be closer to the method you’re looking for.
