Date-triggered rules only run on tasks in "Recently Assigned" and for tasks 1 day out

Before seeing the official tutorial here, I tried creating a set of rules that moves tasks to various sections depending on their due date.

But I find rules only act on tasks in Recently Assigned. Why is this? The tutorial says the tasks can be anywhere. Likewise, only the rule I made to move tasks 1 day before their due date is running, NOT the rule that moves tasks which are due within a week.

Am I missing something obvious here?

Welcome, @Samuel_Ward,

Rules shouldn’t be limited to Recently Assigned, unless you might have inadvertently specified that as part of the “When” or “Check if.”

Re your other point: Note that “Due date is approaching” triggers 1) only run once daily just after midnight, and 2) must match to the day exactly–so your mention of “within a week” is perhaps the culprit.

The help article you pointed to is not very detailed. Here’s my much more detailed advice that includes all the trappings and the exact specification of such rules. If you try these and they still don’t work for you, include screenshots and we can help.

Thanks,

Larry

Thanks for the response,

No “Check If” stages - just two stages.

I do have some rules running at midnight - when due date is today move task to “Do Today”. This is what has me confused.

I’ve edited the rules to trigger after 2 days, so we’ll see what happens then.

OK I’ve seen the rule running now - not sure what the difference was? I potentially didn’t have tasks far out enough.

If I create a new rule, does it only apply to tasks made after the rule was created? I shouldn’t think so, since, I’ve seen rules running immediately for legacy tasks (e.g. upon completeion)

No - if you create a rule and subsequent to that, a task created prior to the rule’s creation matches the rule’s trigger(s) and condition(s), that rule will run for that task.
