Clever ways to extract due dates from critical tasks

Hi all,

We have 100+ projects with the same tasks (around 120 tasks). There are a number of critical tasks (5 or so) which are not milestones and I would like to find a way to either

A) auto populate the due dates from the tasks into a portfolio

or

B) create a Dashboard in the project that shows me the due dates for these tasks

I am trying to avoid having to scroll through my project in order to extract the information.

Looking forward to hearing your ideas.

Best

Sam

You could try the solution documented in this thread:

Alternatively, you could use a custom field to flag those specific tasks some way and then save a search that filters for tasks with that flag.

Unfortunately this is not quite the solution, because you have to use the dummy date field which does need to be filled manually.

I am looking for a solution that populates the due date of a certain task into a specific field in my portfolio.

I don’t mind creating a new field for each task I want populated inside the project, e.g. “Internet Installation Date”. I can create a rule that “Internet Installation Date” matches the due date set and I then want the “Internet Installation Date” field to automatically fill that info in my portfolio.

Gotcha, if you don’t use milestones for other purposes currently, you could also turn those key dates into a milestone and use the timeline view of the portfolio.

That’s the problem, we do have milestones and we don’t want to dilute those milestones by adding other tasks to them.

Totally understand (we have a similar challenge with the portfolio timeline not being filter-able). I think the easiest path is to just create a field (probably single-select) to flag those tasks, then search for tasks with that flag and save the search. It’ll create a “report” of those tasks. You can group them by their project in the list if that helps.

@Samuel_Michaels2,

Why not one or several tab views in each project filtered to just show the key tasks?

Thanks,

Larry

That would work, but I would prefer a solution to display said dates in the portfolio.
