Change the name "due date" to something else

I would love to be able to simply change the name of this column to something else. I understand that I can create custom column to be titled whatever I want however, then I lose the calendar drop down option which is something I want to keep. So, if I could, either, change the name “due date” to something else or have the ability to create a custom column with the calendar drop down option as well, I would appreciate it so much!

Hi @Desiree_Walczak, thanks for providing this feedback!

While it’s not possible to customise the default fields in projects at this time, hopefully this is something our Product team can implement in the future.

I’ll keep you posted on any updates!

Can this be customized now?

Hi @Liz_Koenig,

No, default field names are fixed.

You can create additional date custom fields with any names you choose, but of course those don’t have the built-in behaviors of the Due Date field.

How about now? Really need to be able to change the “due date” name. Or have start and end dates to the custom field, not just a singular date.

No change, sorry, the name isn’t customizable.

Sorry, no news here, either.

Any chime in here to request this functionality. The ask is simple in nature, as we are just wanting to change the visible text of “Due Date” as it doesn’t always match the wording we need to use (it’s stronger than needed in some cases), but the functionality behind it is still necessary. Another vote to be able to change the column heading; please.

Any update to this as of yet? Trying to change the name of a column to something else - as it is throwing off the whole “view” of a budget for grant funding - which is SUPER important for those approving federal grants… please tell me there is some work around if not fixed at this point?

No update at the moment.

The only workaround would be to use a custom date field which you can name whatever you’d like; it doesn’t have the built-in behaviors of the Due Date field but if you’re just concerned with visual aspects for presentation purposes, perhaps that would be OK. (Also, not meaning to pick nits but it’s not “broken” in the sense that Asana is working as designed, so there’s not anything to “fix”.)

Having the functionality in a custom field to include a start and end date would solve this problem. Is that on Asana’s roadmap for the near future?

Asana doesn’t publish a public roadmap so we just have to wait and see what gets released when it does.

Thank you @Phil_Seeman I appreciate your feedback and yes - it was the visual aspects as we are presenting to people that can’t really understand the document once printed out - as it doesn’t “look” like the fields we see in Asana. Maybe that would have been a better question - visually speaking. This presentation was given to the CA Air Quality Management District and they were so confused (they also didn’t want an actual “link” to Asana to view, they needed documentation to forward for the grant). So visually printing or saving as a PDF speaking - changing the columns to reflect the actual CVS. file uploaded into the project would be most helpful. And you’re definitely not nit-picky - you helped me understand my verbiage should have been better lol. You can’t see what I am thinking!! So thank you.

@Brandi_Rahill,

If you’re printing (or making a PDF), then you can customize the column name (it’s easy but better done by someone with a little experience with web pages) when using my free Asana2Go:

Happy to assist the CA Air Quality Management District since I often benefit from their work helping us to understand how safe the air is with wildfire smoke, spare the air days, and the like!

Thanks,

Larry

Tremendous, @Brandi_Rahill! Thanks for replying here.

Customization is key for effective project management! While Asana offers some flexibility, your suggestion to change column names without losing specific functionalities like the calendar drop-down is valid. It would enhance user experience and adaptability to various project needs. Consider sharing this feedback directly with Asana’s support or through their community forums. Providing users with more control over column naming while retaining essential features could significantly improve the platform’s versatility. Your input reflects a practical need for adaptability in project management tools, fostering a more personalized and efficient workflow.

Can you at least properly name your built in column to Date Range instead of Due Date?

Since the Due Date field is what controls most things this field have to be used if you want to work with dates. We run marketing campaigns and we usually set things as a start date and end date.

What bothers us is that the field especially in Swedish is labeled as Due Date (SE: Slutdatum) when it in fact should only be “Dates” or “Time frame” or “Time period” or just being free to rename to whatever you like.
This only has to be a visual change and not a hard change in the code or the function of the due date field.

Also when you create a new task and select date the “Start date” field is really quite hidden or hard to see, making these date selections as more clear buttons would be recommended.

It’s the same in English. Here is a workaround:

If you can’t adjust the name of a fixed field, can you at least give the due date functionality to a custom field?
