Automatically Copy Task Description Into Sub-Tasks

I run multiple automations within our projects. These automations primarily generate subtasks and assign them various team members for next steps. However, the primary task description has information in it that needs to be passed along to all of the automated subtasks.

I found the automation rule that allows you to create these descriptions, however I was unable to find a way to clone the main task description to all following subtasks. After reaching out to the Support team, we’ve determined there is no current way to automatically copy descriptions from a parent task into subtasks.

This would streamline our business and would be a great feature to add.

Welcome, @David_Craig2,

Actually, this is possible.

To get to the above-shown state, first create your subtask then navigate into it with Show more:

Then click into the Description field and click the + button and choose Variable:

Maybe reply to your Support email thread to let them know!

Thanks,

Hey Larry! Thanks for much for responding - I’ve been able to follow your instructions and successfully add the parent task description to all subtask automations!

Thanks again,
