Briefly describe (1-2 sentences) the Bug you’re experiencing:
Attempt to delete a section deletes the task immediately above it.
Steps to reproduce:
Create section heading with Alt-N
Click on it
Tab-Delete
The task ABOVE where you clicked gets deleted, not the section.
I lost a bunch of tasks I deleted by mistake and had to fish out of the trash.
Browser version:
Firefox 71.0

Note … even if you keep the retrograde UI changes that disallow deleting a subheading without deleting its tasks, I think you want to fix this data-losing bug.
I’ve tried to reproduce the issue on my end, but I can’t seem to do so, so it looks like this issue might not be a widespread bug.
In order to help me investigate this issue, can you reply to the following questions?
Are you able to reproduce the issue when logging from a private window?
Is this happening with another browser (Chrome, Safari)
Could you please record a quick screencast to illustrate the issue?
100% repeatable on Firefox - even after a reload, not repeatable on Chrome
On Firefox
click on task A - i.e. give it focus
click on subheading
Tab-Del deletes task A (I thought it was the task immediately above, but its actually the previous task which explains why random tasks ended up in the Trash - was hard to diagnose because of the sort-bug with Trash)
Apologies, I used the wrong term in the title (but correct in the STR) its the SECTION HEADER i’m trying to delete, which causes the unrelated TASK to delete.
Got you! The Section you can create in your Project Task List are our new Sections and cannot be deleted with “Tab+Delete”. Instead, you need to click on the three dots next to the Section to delete it. If you use the “Tab+Delete” shortcut instead, it will automatically move the focus to the task above. You can learn more about these new sections in the following article: Setting Up a Project in Asana | Product Guide • Asana Product Guide
I understand why Tab-Delete wont delete the Section header, but deleting the unrelated task above is not only unexpected but data-losing, especially since you’ve changed it from the previous behavior.
That would be bad enough, but it doesnt delete the task above, it deletes the task you were previously focused on - somewhere completely different.
I didn’t realize what was going on until i realized I’d missed making a tax payment because that task had been deleted ! I had to read every single one of the tasks in my Deleted Tasks to figure out what else had been deleted and found quite a few tasks. I’m sure I won’t be the only one to lose work because of this UI change.
IMHO - if you are focused on Section when you hit Tab+Delete then at worst nothing should happen, not delete some random other task.
Thanks for the follow-up @Mitra_Ardron, I’ve escalated a task with your feedback to the team working on this and will follow-up on this thread when we launch a better solution for this. Thanks again for taking the time to share this feedback and to let us know how this is affecting your work, we’re so sorry for the trouble and will do our best to improve it in the future!
