Asana Outlook add-in, needs to login for every task created

I am having a similar problem.

Hardware: Apple M1 Max
OS: Sonoma 14.3.1
MS App: Outlook 16.81.2 (24012814)
Asana Desktop: 2.1.2

Please advise.

This has been a long standing issue for me, rendering the Asana Outlook add-in essentially worthless.

I would either suggest to address this issue or discard the add-in.

To have to login again (which is a painful process) every second or third use is not worth the time.

This is a long time frustration for me aswell.

I don’t see anyone mentioning they solved this, but I also don’t see anyone mentioning they’ve worked with IT to determine if this is Outlook security settings or Asana.

I think this is the ideal process:

  1. Open Asana add-in
  2. Create new task or add to existing
  3. Modify title/description if desired
  4. submit

The current process (it feels for every other task) is:

  1. Can’t find Asana add-in :arrow_right: need to fully open email to get the option
  2. Open Asana add-in
  3. Click log-in
  4. If in browser confirm opening a new window
  5. Confirm email
  6. Log-in
  7. Authorise access
  8. Create new task or add to existing
  9. Modify title/description if desired
  10. Deselect attachments (Outlook integration: option to default the integration to not include attachments)
  11. submit

Thats 11 (:bangbang:) steps to get an email into Asana!

In the past I’ve worked with similar Outlook add-in’s that only required a one time set-up, as I think one would expect for this kind of functionality. I’m not sure if Outlook has become stricter or this is Asana specific.

@ambforumleader @pforumleader Did any of you come across a solution for this by any chance?

I still prefer to just forward emails to x@mail.asana.com (saved as a contact) and then triage within Asana, once it lands in My tasks (i.e. add to other projects, etc).

@Jan-Rienk,

What’s your environment where this is happening? Which OS and version, which Outlook app (there are at least 3) and version?

I’m an old Outlook developer but haven’t messed with it in a while; not sure I can help here but maybe…

Both outlook desktop (old version) and web

From Asana Support:

I completely understand how frustrating this must be—having to go through so many steps just to get an email into Asana definitely disrupts your workflow. Unfortunately, we’re unable to provide direct support for the Outlook add-in, as it wasn’t developed by us. However, I recommend reaching out to the Microsoft support team, as they’ll be best equipped to help resolve this issue. You can contact them here: https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/contactus

@Forum-team As this isn’t developed by Asana I see no reason to keep this feedback thread open, as this is outside of Asana’s circle of control.

Knowing Microsoft it does make sense why it’s a terrible user experience though…

I’m giving up on this add-in, and will start emailing to Asana like @Richard_Sather suggested.

Email does have some benefits but the add-in id very useful so I hope someone gets it to work. What I’ve noticed is that if you constantly use it daily then it stays logged in but after a day or two reverts to the login problem.

I did notice I needed a lot less steps to log in recently.
