Allow New Custom Fields to Be Applied to All Existing Projects

It would be extremely helpful if Asana allowed users to automatically apply a newly created custom field to all existing projects when that field is added to the organization’s custom field library.

Right now, when creating a custom field, Asana allows you to add that field to the company library so it can be reused across projects going forward. However, there does not appear to be an easy way to apply that new field retroactively to projects that already exist.

This creates a lot of manual cleanup when a company decides to standardize a new field across the organization. For example, if we create a new company-wide custom field that should be used across all projects, we can add it to the library for future use, but we still have to manually go back into every existing project and add that field one by one.

It would be great if, when creating or editing a custom field, there were an option such as:

“Apply this field to all existing projects”
or
“Add this field to all current and future projects.”

This would save a significant amount of administrative time, especially for organizations using Asana at scale.

Another related issue is visibility. Currently, you can click into a custom field and see which projects the field has been added to, but there is no easy way to see which projects it has not been added to. That makes it difficult to audit field usage or confirm whether a company-wide field has truly been applied everywhere it needs to be.

Ideally, Asana would support both:

  1. A one-click option to apply a custom field to all existing projects.

  2. A visibility/audit view showing which projects do and do not currently use that field.

This would make custom field management much more scalable for admins and operations teams, especially when rolling out new standardized fields across an established Asana workspace.
