Adding external user as collaborator via rules

Can I create a rule that adds a collaborator in the following situation:

  • External party fills out a form, which is creating an asana task. The form includes a custom field for the submitter’s email address. I want to automatically add that external party as a collaborator to the task, so that they see the comments related to that task.

When I look at the add collaborator action under the rules, I see how to add a user and how to add using a variable, but I don’t see how to make the variable look to a specific custom field. Thanks!!

I don’t believe it’s possible to automatically invite a new guest user via rule (or even API, afaik). That said, for your use case, if these external users are in your domain (i.e., people at your company without Asana licenses), you could try out the new request tracking feature. If they are true external users, I’m not aware of any way to do this automatically (you could experiment with the outlook/gmail send rule actions).

Thanks - bummer.
