Why is an asana forms link classed as an external link when attaching to Key Resources area?

Does anyone know why a link to an asana form is classed as an external link, when attaching the link to the Key Resources area in a Team / Project?

In the Key Resources area the options are to attach a resource as 1) asana link 2) external link 3) attach a file from computer etc. Surely a form created in asana would fall under option 1 but it doesn’t, the asana form link isn’t recognised when using option 1, I can only attach the link using option 2.

This doesn’t make sense to me … is this a glitch?

@Gillian_French - as far as I can tell, that “Link from Asana” option can link to anything that can be @-mentioned in Asana (e.g., people, teams, tasks, projects, portfolios, goals). It’s also searchable the same way an @-tag is in-platform. It doesn’t include things like dashboards, saved searches, and forms. I don’t know exactly why this is the case, but presumably Asana’s data model treats objects with unique data differently than other objects.

I do agree that the language in that prompt is confusing, but I don’t believe this is a bug. If you add it as an external link, it should link to the form correctly.

@Gillian_French,

The form link Asana creates is not to a resource existing in your Asana workspace; it’s a URL that may be accessible to anyone. So calling that an External link makes sense to me, at least, even though you used Asana to create that link.

Maybe instead of “Link from Asana” a better phrase could be used, because it’s really referring to a link internal to your Asana env.

Thanks,

Larry
